Ford set to expand the Mustang lineup; possibly adding 4-door model

ABU DHABI: In automotive history, the Ford Mustang stands as one of the most iconic nameplates, having achieved many accolades over the years. Riding high on the success of its latest iteration, Ford is now ready to introduce a new range of ICE-powered Mustang variants. Among the potential offerings is a four-door model that marks a departure from its traditional lineage for the first time in six decades.

Ford CEO Jim Farley touted the Mustang at the Goodwood Members’ Meeting as the top-selling coupé in the world, emphasizing its worldwide appeal and huge fan following. Farley also added that any new Mustang derivatives should have the attitude and performance of existing models. He hinted at new body forms, such as a four-door possibility, provided they retain the essence of the Mustang.

Ford is also planning to come up with a hybrid-powered Mustang, as Farley sees lots of potential in semi-electrification to reduce carbon emissions and enhance performance. He believes that Mustang enthusiasts can get added performance benefits with hybrid powertrains while aligning with sustainability goals.

Farley firmly stated that Ford has no interest in developing an all-electric Mustang emphasizing its unique identity from the Mustang Mach-E models. He also emphasized that electric power does not align well with the identity of Mustang. Despite acknowledging the power of electric cars in other areas, Farley said they aren’t compatible with the Mustang brand.
