Driving the new Audi RS3 – Insights into Improved Performance

Abu Dhabi : With the updated RS3, the company’s goal is to take on the Mercedes-Benz AMG A45 S in the segment.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
How does the updated algorithm improve the RS 3's performance?
The upgraded algorithm connects the chassis controls more smoothly and quickly, allowing the car to react sooner and be more confident during sharp turns. What is brake torque vectoring, and how does it work?
Brake torque vectoring sends torque to the rear outside curve while lightly braking the inside wheels, helping the car follow the curve more accurately.- The car now performs better at corners with an updated algorithm and brake torque vectoring.
- The new set of P Zero tyres from Pirelli has been tailor-made for the RS 3.
- The RS 3 derives its energy from the 2.5-liter five-cylinder 400-hp engine.
A year ago, Audi set a new lap record at the Nürburgring Nordschleife with the RS 3. It became the fastest small car to race on the 20.8-kilometer track in the Eifel region. The vehicle has been built with a tuned chassis, semi-slick tyres, and a 400-hp five-cylinder engine. Thanks to these upgrades, the updated RS 3 is now over seven seconds quicker than the earlier version before its facelift.
The new RS 3, which is now in both sedan and sportback styles, has been revamped, combining new aesthetics and state-of-the-art technology.
Enhanced Performance at Corners
Since the 2021 debut of the torque splitter, the Audi RS3 has taken a step forward in how it drives. The fully adjustable torque split on the back wheels gives the car better handling and more stability. This makes it easier and more fun to drive, whether on city streets or a race track.
In late 2024, the RS 3 received a refresh update to improve its performance in corners. The upgraded algorithm connects the chassis controls more smoothly and quickly. This allows the car to react sooner and be more confident during sharp turns.
The new RS 3 initially avoids understeering at the beginning of the curve and then turns more easily thanks to some careful adjustments. One of these is brake torque vectoring. This system sends torque to the rear outside curve while lightly braking the inside wheels. These small braking touches help the car follow the curve more accurately than before.
The RS 3 positions itself closer and quicker to the curve’s apex. This means the driver can start accelerating sooner and reach a higher speed when exiting the turn.
Upgraded tyres
The front tyres are 265/30 and the rear ones measure 245/35, both with a C-label rating. These sizes help give the car great handling. The Pirelli P Zero R tyres are tailor-made just for the RS 3. The grip is fantastic on both dry and wet roads, while handling is precise across all speeds.
This is because they use a multi-compound tread, with softer rubber on the sidewalls and harder rubber in the middle. The standard tyres offer a good mix of everyday comfort and sporty touch.
There is also an optional tyre available from the factory, the Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R semi-slick. It offers a more exciting driving experience. This tyre is mainly designed for track use but is still approved for public roads. It features an asymmetrical pattern and a special rubber mix derived from motorsport racing.
This combo helps the tyre grip well and boosts performance in dry conditions. It also improves stability and side support and shortens braking distances. Like the regular tyre, the semi-slick tyre is the result of a partnership between Audi and Pirelli. The main goal in creating this tyre was always to deliver the best possible performance.
Styling and Interiors
The visual updates feature a new honeycomb grille design, reshaped bumpers, strong air intakes, and refreshed LED light signatures. On the outside, there are new color options to make the car stand out more on the road.
Inside, the RS 3 now has sporty bucket seats that provide better support during spirited driving. Carbon fibre accents and customizable ambient lighting add a racing-inspired feel to the cabin. Paired with Audi’s MMI infotainment system, the RS 3 offers a driving experience that feels both modern and exciting.
