Audi Q2

The cabin of the Audi Q2, which is being offered with two fabric upholstery options of Petrol Grey and Lobster Orange and two leather upholstery options of Black and Rock Grey, feels a bit old-school and too simple in terms of layout. However, the cabin, like every other Audi car and SUV, is high in quality with immaculate fit and finish levels.

Despite it being an entry-level offering, the Audi Q2 does come with a Virtual Cockpit full-TFT instrument console behind its three-spoke multi-functional steering wheel. The centre console has a minimalist design with a standalone infotainment system above the rounded AC vents, which isn’t a touchscreen unit but features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and supports a premium 10-speaker sound system. The Audi Q2 is quite low on features, with this compact SUV only getting essentials like dual-zone automatic climate control, aluminium pedals, ambient lighting and an Audi Phone Box with wireless charging.

The Audi Q2 has received minimal changes in all these years, and while the compact SUV is at the end of its lifecycle, it still looks fresh and very German, making it a premium-looking SUV despite its compact dimensions. The sharp lines and design elements make the Audi Q2 look as subtle and elegant as the rest of the offerings from Audi.

At the front, the Audi Q2 has a bold-looking trapezoidal grille with angular upper and lower edges, while sporting a gloss black finish, which is a part of the S Line exterior kit offered as standard on the compact SUV’s top-spec variant here in the UAE. The Audi Q2 also has angular-looking LED headlamps with tapered lower inner edges, which feature LED projectors and L-shaped daytime running LEDs. The Audi Q2 also has a sports bumper with wide air dams on the corners, while also getting aluminium inserts.

The Audi Q2 might be positioned as a compact SUV, but it looks like a hatchback on stilts when viewed from the side, with it having a not-so-heightened stance. However, the decently high ground clearance, large 18-inch alloy wheels and a sharp crease flowing through the side profile make the Q2 look dynamic. The Audi Q2 also has a wide design for the C-pillar, which further makes it muscular while being looked at from the rear side profile.

The rear profile of the Audi Q2 also looks sharp and dynamic, with the two sharp creases flowing across the width of the boot lid below the raked windscreen making the SUV look bold from the back. The outer corners of the rear profile have block-themed all-LED tail lamps with tapered edges, which also feature dynamic LED turn indicators in them.

Audi has made no compromises on the driving dynamics of the Q2, which does come with Quattro permanent all-wheel drive tech on offer as standard. Along with 18-inch alloy wheels, the suspension and all-wheel drive on offer make the Q2 very stable and dynamic at higher speeds.

The Audi Q2 shares its 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with other entry-level Audi offerings like the Q3 and A4. Paired with a 7-speed S-Tronic automatic transmission, this turbo-petrol engine churns out 190 bhp of maximum power and 320 Nm of maximum torque, making this compact SUV powerful for its size. The Audi Q2 claims 6.5 seconds for completing the 0-100 kmph run. Despite such impressive performance levels, the Audi Q2 claims a commendable fuel efficiency of 15.4 kmpl.

The very basic safety equipment list offered by Audi in Q2 includes eight airbags, ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors and camera, cruise control, tyre pressure monitoring system and traction control.

The Audi Q2 feels a bit old-school due to a lack of comfort, convenience and safety features, some of which are now offered even in vehicles half of its price. However, the real highlight of the Audi Q2 is its driving feel, with the performance and driving dynamics on the lines of larger Q3 making it one of the best driver’s cars of its size.
