2026 Porsche Cayenne EV teased; V8 model to continue production

ABU DHABI: Porsche has confirmed the news that the fourth-generation Cayenne will be offered with an electric drivetrain solely. However, those who prefer traditional powertrains do not need to worry, as the current model’s updated version will continue to be offered until at least 2030.

The new model is scheduled to launch around the middle of the decade. It will be based on the Volkswagen Group’s Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture’s advanced version, which also underpins the Audi Q6 e-tron, Porsche Macan EV, and Audi A6 e-tron.

Porsche has taken measures to ensure its twin-turbo V8 engine meets all the future regulations. The SUV will be offered globally with three powertrain options until 2030. Due to new regulations, the current Macan will be phased out in Europe by 2026 while the new Cayenne is anticipated to make its debut around 2025. This indicates both the existing model and the new Cayenne might be sold together for a few more years. To distinguish between the two Porsche may adjust trim levels.

The new Cayenne prototypes' extensive global testing will be conducted, following the phase of extended digital development. The current Cayenne, which was updated in 2023, will be produced until 2030 and its twin-turbo V8 will undergo various efficiency improvements to meet future regulations. In the Panamera and Cayenne, the petrol V8 will be upgraded so that even without a plug-in hybrid option it complies with Euro 7 emissions standards.

A new flagship electric variant that has been codenamed ‘K1,’ will make its debut around 2028. It will be based on the SSP Sport platform and target the Chinese and U.S. markets. The platform of the current Cayenne is similar to various models such as the Bentley Bentayga and Audi Q7 and is offered in multiple powertrains. The Cayenne was the best-selling Porsche model in 2023 globally.
