2025 Volvo XC70 Will Be a Full-Blown SUV - Details Leaked Ahead of Debut

Abu Dhabi : The new Volvo XC70 is likely to compete against the BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC in its class.

• The 2025 Volvo XC70 has two battery options, which combine with a 1.5-litre petrol engine.
• The SUV gets dual-projector LED headlamps, Thor Hammer LED DRLs, 19/21 inch wheels, and LED taillamps.

The Volvo XC70 is making a comeback, but not as a larger station wagon like the V60 Cross Country. Instead, Volvo has announced that the model will return as an SUV. It won't have just petrol engines or pure electric power. Instead, it will be a plug-in hybrid with an extended range. This hybrid will aim to connect the two types of fuel tech. The XC70 will be placed between the XC60 and XC90 in the lineup.

The Volvo XC70, which is based on the new Scalable Modular Architecture (SMA), is set to be officially revealed later this year. However, most of its details have now gone viral through a post made on China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology website. The listing appears to be part of the vehicle’s approval process. This gives a clear look at what to expect from the upcoming model.

2025 Volvo XC70 – Engine and performance

The new Volvo XC70 will be offered with two plug-in hybrid options. One has a 39.63 kWh NMC battery, while the smaller one features a 21.22 kWh LFP battery. Both models combine with a 1.5-liter turbo 4-cylinder engine that produces 161 hp. The top speed is electronically limited to 180 kmph. The bigger battery pack offers a 180 km electric-only range, and the smaller one can go 100 km on pure EV. 

These ranges are based on CTC tests and will be lower on WLTP. An all-wheel-drive trim with dual electric motors can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 4.6 seconds.

2025 Volvo XC70 – Exterior Design

The Volvo XC70 measures about 4.8 meters long, nearly 1.9 meters wide, and 1.65 meters tall, giving it a spacious cabin. The XC70 looks like a blend of the Volvo EX90 and XC60. The front profile looks similar to the EX90, with a closed grille, Thor Hammer LED DRLs, and active aero dams. The dual-projector LED headlamps are vertical and set in the bumper. 

The sides have smooth, flush door handles, and customers can choose 19- or 21-inch alloy wheels. The back is simpler, with vertical LED tail lights and a plain bumper. The overall look combines modern design with practical features.

2025 Volvo XC70 - Interior and features

The leaked photo set shows the XC70 with no interior details, but it’s likely to share the same cabin design as the EX90. Expect light-colored leather upholstery and a simple, clean layout. The dashboard will probably have a big vertical infotainment. Features like the digital cockpit, LiDAR ADAS safety tech, and comfort options will likely come from the XC60 and EX90. 

2025 Volvo XC70 – Price and Launch in the UAE

Volvo plans to release the XC70 first in China. The official launch for the Chinese market is expected in the second half of this year. The company has not announced a clear date for other countries yet, but it is believed that it will launch in the UAE around late 2025 or early 2026. In the UAE, the expected price for the XC70 will be about AED 250,000.
