The car had its global launch in 2019 and got a few cosmetic updates in 2022. The 2024 Toyota Rush has a starting price of AED 71,900 in the Emirates market.
How many variants are there in the Toyota Fortuner range?
The 2024 Toyota Rush MPV is available in two variants with a single-engine option.
Which is the most value-for-money variant of the Toyota Rush?
The 2024 Toyota Rush GX is the top model of the MPV available in the Emirates. It gets four additional features over and above the entry-level EX model.
What features does the Toyota Rush get?
The Toyota Rush MPV was updated in 2022. The 2024 model retains all specifications of the last update. The Rush's design is much inspired by its older and bigger brother, the Toyota Fortuner. Size-wise, the 2024 Toyota Rush sits between the Avanza and the Innova. Both these cars are a bestseller in various global markets. The Rush is mounted on a ladder-frame chassis, just like Avanza. The Rush gets all-around LED lighting. The front fascia gets sleek headlights with integrated daytime running lights (DRLs). These blend nicely with the bold grille. The top-end GX model comes gets a smoked-chrome grille, roof rails, and 17-inch alloy wheels. The entry-level model runs on 16-inch alloy wheels. The updated Toyota Rush gets a nice-looking shark-fin antenna and a rear spoiler. The spare tire that was earlier placed on the back door, has now been moved to the undercarriage.
The cabin of the 2024 Toyota Rush MPV is more tilted towards the utilitarian side. Hard plastics have been abundantly used in the cabin to up durability and also keep production costs low. The top-end GX trim gets a leather-wrapped gearshift knob and steering wheel, while the entry-level model gets polyurethane. Black is the predominant colour in the cabin and the seats are upholstered in faux-leather in the EX trim. Some dashboard and doors get some white accents. The dashboard itself is dominated by a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment unit connected to an eight-speaker audio system. The multifunction steering wheel controls a number of multimedia functions. The driver's information display has easy readouts. The cabin has a number of cubby holes and storage spaces. The car gets 13 cupholders and bottle-holders. The central console is neatly laid out. The MPV gets a 219-litre boot space with all seven seats up.
How spacious is the Toyota Rush?
With 4,435mm length, 1,695mm width, 1,705mm height, the 2024 Toyota Rush is a compact MPV. But the cabin still gets enough space to carry seven passengers comfortably. The two front seats, like most MPVs, get the maximum legroom and headroom. All seats are nicely cushioned and get back support. However, lumbar support is not available in the EX model. The second row has enough space to accommodate three full-grown adults. The seat is bench-type and has a central armrest. The middle row gets 60:40 split function to enable access to the third row.
The third row doesn't have much legroom. Headroom is also limited. Adults will find the same crammed and the seat is only suitable for small children. The third row gets 50:50 split-fold seats to get more cargo space. The last row in most seven-seater MPVs aren't often used and most manufacturers allot less space there. The 2024 Toyota Rush gets automatic climate control thar's operated via the physical buttons.
What engine and transmission options are available?
The 2024 Toyota Rush is equipped with a turbocharged, four-cylinder, 1.5-litre petrol engine that produces 102 PS/134 Nm. The motor is mated to a four-speed automatic. It's the same engine that hauls the Toyota Avanza. For the Rush, the engine seems to be a bit underpowered. A six-speed automatic would have made the powertrain more capable. Response from the four-speed unit is a bit delayed. But the steering wheel is light and nicely balanced. That's a boon in city traffic and the 2024 Toyota Rush can overtake without any fuss. The windscreen is wide and offers great visibility and the driver gets a commanding ride height. The suspension setup is well-balanced though some of the harder bumps and thuds are felt inside the cabin.
What’s the mileage of the Toyota Rush?
MPVs usually don't have a great fuel economy. The 2024 Toyota Rush has a claimed mileage of 21kmpl which is of course not close to real-life numbers. The car returns an average mileage of 14kmpl when fully loaded with passengers.
How safe is the Toyota Rush?
The 2024 Toyota Rush gets seven airbags, antilock braking, hill-start assist, vehicle stability control, child seat tethers, and traction control across the range. Other equipment includes parking sensors and anti-theft alarm. The rearview camera is reserved only for the GX model.
How many colour options are there for the Toyota Rush?
The 2024 Toyota Rush is available in White, Dark Red Mica Metallic, Silver Mica Metallic, Black Metallic, and Bronze Mica Metallic colours. All models get body-coloured bumpers.
Should you buy the 2024 Toyota Rush?
The 2024 Toyota Rush is worthy for those who want a spacious family car that serves both as a daily commuter and a weekend traveller. It's also the lowest-priced member in the Emirates MPV segment.
What are my alternatives?
The Suzuki Ertiga and Isuzu Mu-X are the closest rivals of the 2024 Toyota Rush. The Isuzu Mu-X is more of a rugged sports utility vehicle (SUV). The Toyota Rush also faces in-house competition from the Urban Cruiser and RAV4. The latter comes with a more powerful engine.
Other things to consider
The 2024 Toyota Rush is a comfortable MPV though not the most spacious in its segment. But it's backed by the Japanese manufacturer's extensive service network. Maintenance isn't expensive and spare parts are widely available.

Zigwheels Take
Read MoreThe Rush is a compact SUV from Toyota. This 7 seater had a complicated birth. It takes its styling inspiration from the Fortuner and the Innova, is based on the Avanza’s platform, and is essentially a rebadged Daihatsu Terios. This, fortunately, does not result in some chimera but a very sensible small SUV for families that want a baby Fortuner. This model version was first launched in 2017 and just this year has been given an update for 2019. Here in UAE, it competes against the Nissan Kicks, Renault Duster, and Mitsubishi ASX. The newest model is available in only one variant and sells for a starting price of AED 68,500. Here is a look at the new model’s features and specifications.
