Van in UAE: From Family Vans to Commercial Use

Van in UAE: From Family Vans to Commercial Use

Abu Dhabi: Among the several niche segments of the automotive market in the UAE, vans are a prominent one. Over the years, demand for vans has been growing considerably for reasons that are easy to understand. The vibrant economy of the Emirates has tourists visiting, who need vehicles that can carry large groups. Then comes the commercial aspect, where corporates, small businesses and other large groups travel, or cargo demand continues to surge. Another equally important segment is large families need a vehicle with more seating capacity, and vans serve the purpose.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Why are vans popular in the UAE in 2025?

Higher passenger capacity, cargo utility, reliability, and suitability for business and family use make vans popular in the UAE.
  • Which top brands offer vans in the UAE?

Brands like Toyota, Nissan, Hyundai, and Kia offer popular vans in the UAE.
  • What is the price range of vans?

The price range of vans in the UAE in 2025 is roughly AED 70,000 to AED 110,000 for common models.
  • All of these applications bolster the demand for vans. And, what matters to these buyers is a van that is comfortable and reliable. To serve such demanding customers' needs, automakers across the globe have introduced some globally known and proven vans in the UAE, which are now available to buyers.  It is not just the new van market alone, but the used one has also been on a growth curve, with strong demand. There are some popular vans, some new and others catering to the market for a long time, and we take a look at the top contenders.

    Toyota Hiace: The leader

    Price Range: AED 110,900 – 150,900

This list starts with the Hiace, which is Toyota’s legendary van that has, over the years, set a benchmark. Anyone looking for a solid van that defines the market and measured against it, this is it, the ultimate leader.

Packed with a 3.5L diesel engine, the Hiace gets 277hp of power, and is available in 13-seat passenger configuration or cargo panel versions. Multiple variants from GL to GLS, manual or automatic.

    Toyota Hiace Exterior

Here's the reality: Apart from the utility and convenience for the buyers, the Hiace retains approximately over 70% of its value after three years, compared to the Urvan's 61%. That's a significant difference over time. And, so no surprise, fleet operators trust this van, and they know resale value is predictable, which turns out to be its biggest strength.

Another advantage is that the Hiace scores high, is highly affordable, being highly affordable to maintain over its rivals, something that matters to buyers in this segment. The Hiace requires an oil change every 10,000 km versus the Nissan Urvan's 8,000 km interval. And with this one aspect, over a vehicle's lifetime, that's significant money saved.

The Hiace is designed to carry 6,200 litres of cargo space in van configurations and a spacious 11+2 passenger seating layout. Something buyers really live basically, Toyota offers real space for real use.

Its service network is strongest; Toyota has roughly 51 service centres across GCC markets. Parts availability, no waiting. You walk into a parts shop and it's there, and this reduces the downtime a lot, which again works in its advantage.

The interior is functional, not premium. The seats are durable, designed for wear and tear, something intentional, as it is quite clear, comfort matters less than durability here.

Popular Among: The buyer segment includes fleet companies, small businesses doing deliveries, families needing genuine space, and contractors.

Real Strengths: Resale value, service costs, parts availability, over 5+ years, these add up to serious money. The upfront price difference to competitors gets recovered.

    Nissan Urvan: The Challenger

Price Range: AED 89,900 – 120,900Nissan Urvan Front Side View

The Nissan Urvan is gaining traction in the UAE market and is slowly offering an alternative to the Hiace buyers. It's priced lower than the market leader; on paper, it looks competitive. But in reality, it's a trade-off.

The 2.5L petrol engine produces 147hp of power across all variants, with 12-15 seat capacity depending on configuration and offered in manual and automatic options. The Urvan is priced at approximately AED 115,000 compared to the Hiace at AED 128,500, making it competitively positioned for cost-conscious buyers.

The Urvan measures 4.95m in length versus the Hiace's 5.26m, offering slightly better navigation in narrow city roads. This matters if you're parking in tight Dubai residential areas. In terms of fuel efficiency, both on highway and city drives, the Urvan is not bad; it nearly matches its rivals, the Hiace, and overall it looks noticeably more efficient.

Insurance premiums for the Urvan are approximately 4.2% of the vehicle's value, while the Hiace averages around 4.8%. Small savings add up.

But the big difference is the resale market, where the value of this van isn’t that great, which is understandable, as it is a new and emerging van. The used market prefers Hiace. If you're keeping the van long-term or plan to resell, the Hiace advantage becomes obvious.

Nissan's service network in GCC markets includes 43 service centres compared to Toyota's roughly 51, but with slightly fewer options, but still adequate.

Popular Among: The buyer segment comprises budget-conscious first-time buyers, those doing city delivery work, and families wanting to save on fuel. Anyone calculating the initial cost more than the lifetime cost.

Real Strength: You save money upfront, and have some decent performance. But you may end up losing money if you consider selling early.

    Toyota Liteace: The economy option

Price Range: AED 69,900 – 84,900Liteace Front angle low view

This is the budget van, and it’s genuinely affordable for something that works. Equipped with a 1.5L engine that produces 96hp of power, it is a two-seater configuration. Designed for simple commercial use like small cargo deliveries, light business transport, and storage.

There are special variants. The Liteace Chiller Van (AED 84,900) has refrigeration for food delivery. The Fleemo version (AED 69,900) is a bare bones basic.

It's not the most comfortable or premium, but certainly practical. Users value its compact size, which makes it convenient for downtown delivery work without worrying about space and parking challenges. Fuel economy is excellent. The single cab and small engine mean minimal consumption, and parts are available and cheap, and the cost of service is low.

Popular Among: Food delivery operations, small retail businesses, and anyone purely focused on utility without comfort. This is a work vehicle, not a lifestyle choice.

Resale value? Weak. But the initial cost is so low that even a weak resale works out okay.

    Hyundai Staria: Modern Choice

Price Range: AED 109,999 – 163,999Staria Front angle low view

Korean automaker Hyundai, taking a shot at the growing van market, introduced the modern, stylish and comfortable Staria. It aims to take on the market leader by offering a newer and fresher van than the Hiace. The Hyundai Staria is highly regarded for its modern design, upscale interior, and more contemporary tech to uplift the van segment in the Emirates.

It comes with a powerful 3.5L engine, which produces 272hp of power and is available in 3-seater commercial or 6-seater family versions. And gets an AT as standard. This is the van for buyers who want something less functional than the Hiace. The cabin feels more car-like, materials are better, the touchscreen is more advanced, and the design is much sleeker.

But here's the catch: It's newer to the UAE market, and so the resale value is unproven. The service network is smaller, and parts aren't as universally available as Toyota.

Suitable For: For families looking for comfort and modern features and technologies, the Staria makes sense to pay the premium in price.  For business operators who value resale and service reliability, the Hiace remains safer.

Insurance and fuel costs are similar to Hiace, and maintenance should be comparable, but we don't have years of data yet.

    Peugeot Boxer and Expert

Price Range: AED 104,900 – 185,900Boxer Front angle low view

These are commercial-grade vans, which are built for work, not necessarily for utmost comfort.

The Peugeot Boxer is diesel-only, gets a 2.2L engine, produces 130hp of power and comes in multiple roof heights (L2H2 standard roof, L4H3 high roof) and a 2-seater cargo configuration.

Peugeot Expert is a diesel-powered van with a 2.0L 150 hp of power or an electric (160 hp). Has multiple size variants and can be fitted for passenger or cargo use.

These are serious work vans, mostly useful for logistics companies, courier services, and construction outfits. They're built tough and designed for European roads, which means they handle Middle Eastern heat and dust well. But as expected, the resale market is smaller in the UAE, and so is the service network, not as strong as Toyota or Nissan. And you expect that parts sometimes need special ordering. Insurance can be slightly higher.

For businesses with specific European van requirements or wanting something different from the Japanese standard, these make sense. For general buyers, the Hiace or Urvan offer better resale and service support.Expert Front angle low view

    GMC Savana

    Price Range: AED 139,000 – 159,000

This is the full-size American van, like we are all familiar with,  big, powerful, and thirsty for fuel.

Engine options are 4.8L (293 hp) in the 2500 or 6.0L (352 hp) in the 3500, and configuration includes cargo or 15-seater passenger configurations.

If you want an American truck presence in van form, the GMC Savana delivers with its spacious interior, powerful engines, and premium feel. A lot of cargo capacity and great for large group transport.

Fuel economy is lower than the conventional van, and so the service is pricier, and parts availability is okay but not as seamless as Toyota.

Resale value in the UAE is limited as the used market for full-size American vans is smaller than the Japanese competition.

Popular Among: Certainly not a preferred choice for regular van users or fleet operators who seek value. This is more for buyers who want American operators needing maximum capacity, buyers unconcerned with fuel costs.Savana Front angle low view

    Specialised Vans: Chiller and Refrigerated

Several brands offer chiller or refer van versions customised for these applications, like Toyota Hiace Chiller, Nissan Urvan Chiller, etc. AED 84,900 (Hiace Chiller).

These have refrigeration units built in. Perfect for food delivery, pharmaceutical transport, or any business requiring temperature control.

Chiller vans cost more upfront. Maintenance is more complex, cooling units need servicing. But for temperature-sensitive businesses, they're essential.

The same reliability rules apply, and Hiace Chiller is safer long-term than competitor chillers.
