Toyota to make Century a global luxury brand

ABU DHABI: Toyota’s new Century brand has attracted a huge clientele in Japan since its establishment in 1967. The Century brand testifies to Toyota's dedication to meticulousness and excellence. 

However, the recent automotive industry developments hint that Toyota is all set to take its strategy to a new level. The automaker is planning to expand the brand’s reach worldwide, to solidify its position as a global luxury brand. The Century lineup will stand toe to toe with luxury titans like Rolls-Royce, Bentley, and Mercedes-Maybach. 

At the Tokyo Auto Salon, Toyota unveiled the GRMN Century SUV signaling a huge demand for sport-oriented offerings. Additionally, a series of trademark filings have been reported for the Century name in various countries other than Japan. 

Built on Toyota's GA-K platform that it shares with the Lexus TX SUVs and Toyota Grand Highlander, the Century luxury SUV boasts a petrol-hybrid powertrain. It comprises a turbocharged 3.5-litre V6 engine and an electric motor combinedly producing 406 hp. Also, part of the kit is a lithium-ion battery pack.

At the Guangzhou Motor Show, Toyota announced that a left-hand-drive version of the Century SUV would be available for the Chinese market. In 1998, left-hand-drive Century sedans were produced in a limited number but after just 100 units their production ceased. 

Toyota's Motomachi plant is the place where the Century sedan is manufactured, with production limited to just 50 units per month. On the other hand, the Century SUV is built in Japan at the Tahara plant.

The evolution of the Century brand paves the way for a new era of luxury motoring. It is characterized by unparalleled luxury and cutting-edge technology.
