Lexus LX570, Toyota Land Cruiser & Tacoma recalled

ABU DHABI: Toyota USA has initiated two recalls. One involving the Land Cruiser and  Lexus LX570 for addressing the seatbelt issue and the other for the Toyota Tacoma pickup truck for brake and airbag-related problems.

In the first recall, the production defect has been encountered in the vehicle’s airbag and associated systems that may cause the seat belt tension sensor to malfunction. This can result in showing up the airbag warning light on the information cluster and can even deactivate different airbags of the vehicle, including front passenger, side for the front passenger, and the knee airbag, which is again for the front passenger.

The units manufactured between 2008 and 2019 are likely to be affected and thus have been recalled. This covers around 87,900 units of the Toyota Land Cruiser and Lexus LX570 combined.

According to the company officials, the remedy of the problem is yet to be discovered and car owners will be notified regarding the same by mid-February 2019.

Talking about the second recall, a total of 44,000 Toyota Tacoma units have been recalled, manufactured between 2018 and 2019. The problem is associated with a seal in the brake master cylinders that could break over time, causing an internal leakage of brake fluid. As a result, braking efficiency would get affected and brake pedal would not work in the desired fashion. Ultimately, this could increase the possibility of an accident.

For this issue, the company will be installing a brand new brake master cylinder in all the affected vehicles for free. The Tacoma owners will be notified via email once the issue gets resolved by January 2019.

This Toyota recall is currently only for the US market, so need not to worry if you own any of the above-mentioned vehicles in the UAE. We’ll keep you posted if anything comes up for the UAE market.
