Porsche all set to reveal premier hybrid 911 on May 28

ABU DHABI: Porsche has been considering hybrid integration for the 992-generation 911 since 2018. The first 911 was unveiled in 1963, but its production did not begin until 1964. It marked a huge leap from the initial model of Porsche, the 356, boasting increased power and size. After years of updates and speculations, Porsche is all set to reveal the first hybrid 911 on May 28th.

After extensive testing, Porsche announced that the development of a hybrid 911 powertrain has been completed. While the specific variant has not been disclosed, Porsche has named it a "performance hybrid" boasting a 7:16.934 Nürburgring Nordschleife lap time. Test driver Jörg Bergmeister emphasised its enhanced power and grip compared to its predecessor.

Porsche's hybrid 911 is speculated to replace the mid-grade GTS or the base model. It will most likely be part of the 992 generation's typical .2 upgrade.

Porsche's hybrid 911 has undergone extensive testing of over 3 million miles, spanning public roads and tracks in diverse climates. From scorching heat to freezing cold it has been tested in various driving environments, including final stages in Dubai. It showed its capability in various conditions, from high drivetrain loads in urban traffic to mountain passes. However, important specifics, such as whether it will be a plug-in hybrid have not been disclosed.
