Mercedes-Benz C-Class Cabriolet Updates

Mercedes-Benz has officially announced its plans to introduce a new model called the CLE in 2024, which will replace both the C-Class and E-Class coupe and cabriolet variants. This forthcoming model is expected to incorporate a plug-in hybrid system, combining a 2.0-litre petrol engine with an electric motor to produce an impressive combined output of 680 hp. However, it will take some time before this new model becomes available in the UAE market. In the meantime, customers can still enjoy the existing generation of the C-Class Cabriolet, which starts at a price of AED 205,000. The base variant of the C-Class Cabriolet is equipped with a 2.0-litre engine delivering 204 hp, while the top-end variant boasts a more powerful 3.0-litre engine generating 435 hp.

Mercedes-Benz C-Class Cabriolet Expert Review

With the C-Class Cabriolet, Mercedes-Benz gives the most affordable experience of wind-in-the-hair motoring. This most affordable convertible from Mercedes-Benz is basically based on the platform of C-Class, which means that it shares its powertrain, chassis and most of the design bits in and out with the C-Class sedan. However, it does come with a couple of fair changes, making it a separate entity.

Interior

Compared to the outside where the C-Class Cabriolet comes with some very noticeable sheet metal changes, the interior cabin of the convertible has been lifted off from the C-Class sedan.

While the flat bottomed three-spoke round themed steering wheel is a completely different unit, the fancy looking fully digital instrument console behind it has been something which we have already seen in the C-Class sedan. The waterfall-like center console with free-standing infotainment system at the top, three round AC vents just below it and minimalist buttons for climate control too is the same as that on the regular C-Class sedan.

However, the C-Class Cabriolet comes with a more premium sounding music system and piano black finish on the dashboard, giving it a more rich experience. The list of comfort and convenience features is the same as that on the regular C-Class sedan. However, in order to free up some space for the folding roof, the rear seat space has been compromised with limited knee room, despite the fact that it shares its wheelbase with the sedan version.

Exterior

As the name suggests, the C-Class Cabriolet is designed on the platform of the C-Class sedan, however, in an attempt to make it a bit more special, the Cabriolet comes with a couple of sheet metal changes.

The front stance of the C-Class Cabriolet has been derived from that of the C-Class, which purely means that it shares its front grille and Multibeam full LED headlamps with the latter. The starry effect of the grille, as well as LED lighting pattern of the headlamps, does give the C-Class Cabriolet a blingy front fascia.

It is the side profile from where the C-Class Cabriolet begins to get its own visual identity. While the design till the B-pillar is the same as that of the C-Class, the rear door design has been given a miss to incorporate the folding roof. There is a nice prominent and thick character line flowing from the front fender to the side edge of the tail lamp. Also, the nice chrome garnish below the window frame running all the way covering the rear windscreen lends it a premium touch.

The boot design of the C-Class Cabriolet has been completely redesigned as compared to that of the C-Class sedan, with a cleaner design and a new set of LED tail lamps.

Ride & Handling

The C-Class has already gained the reputation of one of the most comfortable places to be in, and the C-Class Cabriolet, based on the latter, retains this trait pretty well. On offer are three different suspension modes, courtesy the Dynamic Body Control system, which along with the Dynamic Select system, allows you to change the characteristics of the engine, transmission and steering feedback.

Engine & Fuel Consumption

In the Mercedes-Benz C-Class Cabriolet, one does get the 1.9-litre four-cylinder petrol engine as the only engine option, which we have already experienced in the sedan version. However, this engine is available in two states of tune – while the C200 produces 205 PS of power and 300 Nm of torque, the C300 generates 260 PS of power and 370 Nm of torque. In both the cases, the engine is paired to a 9G-Tronic automatic gearbox.

Braking & Safety

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class Cabriolet is armed with some really appreciable safety features, such as front, side, curtain and knee airbags, ABS with EBD and Brake Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Warning, cornering brake control, dynamic traction control and hill start assist.

Verdict

While the C-Class Cabriolet might be the most affordable way to get a convertible car with the three-pointed star on it, it is quite high in aspirational value and desirability. With its stunning design, pampering interiors and perfect balance of spirited performance and comfortable ride quality, the C-Class Cabriolet ticks all the right boxes for an entry-level convertible car.

  • A head turner on the streets

When you are out on the streets driving the new Mercedes Benz C Class Cabriolet, I don't know about anything else but you will surely turn some heads. The car looks absolutely stunning and is one of the finest convertibles on the inside and out, exuding the true Mercedes Benz sophistication and luxury. With 12 attractive color options, you get some exciting choices and my personal favorite is the blue shade, which takes the sophisticated and sporty exterior design to a different level. Performance and interior experience are also top-notch and make for an amazing drive, with the 4-seater convenience as well.

  • Perfect for open-top relaxation

I've had the Mercedes-Benz C-Class Cabriolet for just over a month. I had to trade it due to some financial constraints. This posh four-seat convertible is the epitome of luxury and opulence. Whenever I rode it on the open streets, people looked at it in awe admiring its modern design. It comes with Airscarf technology, which blows nice warm air onto my neck to make going topless more bearable in winter. It also has good boot space and a comfy back seat, which you won't find in many of the convertibles.

  • Looks superb, drives even better

When I visited the Mercedes Benz showroom, I had no plans to buy the new Mercedes Benz C Class Cabriolet, but when I saw the car in that metallic blue paint scheme, I could not look at any other car. It is simply a gorgeous 4-seater convertible and definitely one of the most attractive in the segment. The car is elegant, sporty and bold all at the same time and then comes the absolutely delightful performance thanks to the upgraded equipment package along with a super powerful 3.0L V6 engine making 435 hp of power.
