South Korean manufacturer, Kia has introduced its first family sedan with a host of design refinements and technological upgrades that has resulted in a masterpiece which is much better. With its bold appearance and elegant cabin, Optima competes with the best in its class. Officially, it was launched in the year 2000 and promoted worldwide under different nameplates such as Kia Magentis for the auto markets of Europe and Canada and Kia Lotze is being used in the South Korean markets. Recently, the manufacture has revealed its facelifted 2014 model at the New York international Auto Show in March 2013.

Coming to its exterior aspects, its character lines set it apart from the crowd. The clean and tidy design lines with balanced proportions of harmony creates a sporty, dynamic sedan presence that can never be unnoticed. Optima’ s state-of-the-art lighting package has been elevated with surface-emitting tail lights, headlamps, fog lamps and daytime running lights are placed for maximum compelling appeal. The signature design of radiator grille i.e. “tiger nose” makes is look little aggressive from its front facade. Overall dimensions of this appealing sedan measure 4845 mm x 1830 mm x 1455 mm (L x W x H) and the standard wheelbase stands at 2795 mm. The Kia Optima enhances a decent technical specification when it comes to power and performance. The car is available in variants powered by 2 different engines; Nu 2.0 litre MPI engine and 2.4 litre Theta II MPI engine. The 2.4 litre Theta II engine gives out 180 PS of maximum power, along with 231 Nm of peak torque, whereas the Nu 2.0 litre engine offers a maximum power of 162 PS, and the generated peak torque is about 194 Nm. When it comes to acceleration, the car doesn't disappoint. The 2.4 litre engine takes 9.5 seconds to tick the speed mark of 100 km/hr from standstill. IN terms of fuel economy, the better engine option is the 2.0 litre MPI engine delivers a mileage of 13.1 kmpl for combined driving situations.

New Optima comes fitted with class-leading standard safety elements for its passengers that gives them peace of mind in any situation. The outfitted Electronic Stability Control (ESC) deploys in sudden braking situations to maintain the vehicle’s stability. Its 18-inch alloy wheels are employed with large sized disc brakes that offers powerful braking performance. For firm driving, the front axle is paired with subframe-mounted McPherson strut with coil springs and rear suspension coupled with subframe-mounted multi-links with coil springs. Other standard safety aspects of this sedan includes advanced 6-airbag system, safety power windows for front seat passengers and front active headrests.


Sporty styling, class-leading interior and an agile chassis makes New Optima a winner in its segment. But it falls a bit short when it comes to ride comfort and power delivery as compared to its rival cars like Honda Accord.
