Porsche Taycan sketches out, to debut in September

ABU DHABI: The Porsche Mission E concept was unveiled a while back in 2015 and today we get a sneak peek as to what the final production version may look like. The car in question is called the Taycan, and it will be Porsche’s first all-electric sports car. Also, it's expected to cost more than the Tesla Model S.

So, how did these sketches emerge? Well, they were posted by members of the Taycan Forum after they were unravelled in an email sent by Porsche to prospective customers. In the sketches, the final design showcases sharper bumpers with the splitter/diffuser being more prominent. The front wheel arches are also less protruding, and we can expect the suicide doors to be replaced with something more mainstream, as seen in pictures of working prototypes. Overall the design does have a more aggressive edge over the Mission E concept.

Now, let us look at what makes the Taycan tick. You get two permanently synchronous motors (PSM) with a combined power output of around 600 PS. The 0-100 kmph sprint is claimed to take 3.5 seconds while 0-200 kmph is dismissed under 12 seconds. One of the most important things in an electric car is the range, and the Taycan is said to have a 500 km range on a single charge. Along with this, the 800-volt charging system takes just 4 minutes to get a 100 km range.

Going by what some reports have said earlier, we could see three variants of the car, namely Tycan, Tycan 4S, and Tycan Turbo. The new Porsche will be produced right in the heart of the company, in Zuffenhausen district of Stuttgart, Germany. It will be manufactured right next to the company’s iconic 911. The Zuffenhausen site is currently undergoing a massive change, with the company quite literally building a factory on top of an existing unit to prepare for the production of the first all-electric car, the Taycan.

We expect the Taycan to be unveiled sometime in September. There are no details as to when Porsche will bring it to the region just yet, we will have to wait to get more details on the same.
