Next-gen Skoda Kodiaq revealed with modest styling tweaks

ABU DHABI: Skoda has unveiled the second-generation Kodiaq globally. The new Kodiaq gets a new design, additional features, and improved dynamics. It also gets revised gearbox and powertrain options and has grown in size than its predecessors. The unveiling followed the launch of the new Volkswagen Tiguan. Both the Tiguan and Kodiaq share the same MQB-Evo platform.

Inspired by the Vision 7S concept that was previewed last year, the new Kodiaq adopts the 'Modern Solid' design philosophy. It looks more utilitarian and rugged and features squared-off wheel arches, a sculpted bonnet, a prominent hexagonal grille, and refreshed badging in a corporate font. For the first time, Skoda's new logo can be seen on a production car, and on the front end, there's an option for an LED light strip, similar to the electric Enyaq. The new Kodiaq has a 2,791mm wheelbase and is 61mm longer than its predecessor.

The redesigned cockpit of the new Kodiaq shares similarities with the upcoming Skoda Superb. It is equipped with an optional head-up display, a 10-inch digital information display, and a 13-or 10-inch touchscreen. Three physical 'smart dials' have also been introduced, along with color displays. In terms of interior, you can choose from four different design packages, including sustainability-focused options for reducing the environmental impact of the SUV.

The new Kodiaq SUV will be offered in turbo-petrol, diesel, mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains, mated to either a front-wheel or an all-wheel drive setup. These engines are paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch or a 6-speed automatic transmission and produce impressive power outputs ranging from 150 hp to 204hp. The new Kodiaq iV plug-in hybrid can generate 204 hp of power, and in electric-only mode, it can run for around 100 km. 

The new Kodiaq will arrive in India around 2024. We do not have any updates about the arrival of this model in the UAE.
