McLaren has finally completed developing its fastest machine. A prototype version of the production Speedtail, with the name XP2, has been crowned as the quickest and most hi-tech production car for its impeccable performance at speed runs.

The car has crashed the news platforms and blogs for reaching the speed of an impressive 403 kmph, more than 30 times during its testing at the Johnny Bohmer Proving Ground's runway, Florida. The XP2 dethrones the iconic F1 by breaking its record of 386.4 kmph.

The Speedtail is a limited-production car under the segment of hybrid sports and features an incredible aerodynamic shape. The USP of this car is its ultra-lightweight construction and carbon-fibre body panels which enable it to reach the speed of above 400 km per hour in a matter of moments. However, the vehicle is not street-legal due to its high power delivery.

McLaren Automotive CEO, Mike Flewitt said, “It’s fitting that the Speedtail’s high-speed test programme concluded with multiple maximum-speed runs at a location strongly associated with pushing the boundaries of extreme performance and engineering excellence.”

XP2 runs on a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V-8 engine and electric motors which generates a maximum power 1035 hp. The car sports a set of Pirelli P Zero tires around its 20 and 21-inch wheels. The height of the hypercar is also be lowered by 1.4 inches.

On the interior, Speedtail features a three-seat layout and has a teardrop-shaped cockpit. The switch gears of the car are replaced majorly by digital touchscreens and retractable rear view-camera mirrors instead of wing mirrors. Moreover, the vehicle is also said to feature a Velocity drive mode for high-speed runs.

However, McLaren has decided to produce only 106 units worldwide for its Speedtail. The deliveries for this vehicle will start in February 2020 and would come with a price tag of around AED 8.2 billion, making the vehicle a costly affair.
