Kia has launched the PV5 in the UAE. Purpose-built for electric commercial use, it comes in two body styles.

Kia has launched the PV5 in the UAE in two body styles: Passenger and Cargo. Commercial fleet operators, corporate shuttle services and last-mile delivery businesses are the target buyers. Petrol and diesel vans have dominated the segment till now but the Kia PV5 is the first electric entry.

What's New

Kia has brought its purpose-built electric vehicle platform to the UAE with the PV5. The models come in a PV5 Passenger and a PV5 Cargo. Simple and modular, the body suits urban commercial work. Logistics or people-moving, the platform covers both.

Variants & Pricing

Body style is the key dividing line. Built for families or ride-sharing, the Passenger model has flexible flat-folding seating rows and 1,330 litres of luggage space behind five seats. Fold them down and that grows to 3,615 litres, pure utility.

The Cargo variant maxes out at 4,420 litres and is fitted with rear doors that swing out to a full 180-degree opening, easing the loading process. UAE pricing for both variants is unconfirmed.

In the UAE in Real Life

Step-in heights are low at 399 mm on the Passenger and 419 mm on the Cargo. The wide 775 mm sliding doors come on the Passenger variant. The Cargo gets a three-piece modular front bumper, which cuts repair costs after minor city impacts.

Inside, you get a 12.9-inch infotainment screen and a 7.5-inch digital cluster handle the dash. The 100-watt dashboard port can charge laptops, mobile phones and other electronic devices with ease and a sliding tray folds out as a small work surface. Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability lets the battery power external tools directly.

Engine, Performance & Fuel Economy

Both PV5 models send drive to the front wheels via a single electric motor, good for 160 hp and 250 Nm. Two battery sizes are available, a standard 51.5 kWh pack and a long-range 71.2 kWh unit.

Driving range tops out at 412 km for the Passenger model and 416 km for the Cargo version. It comes with rapid charging, both packs go from 10% to 80% in 30 minutes. Kia has also confirmed that internal software will get over-the-air updates.

Rivals: What Else Can You Buy in this segment?

Purpose-built electric vans are scarce in the UAE. For businesses and large families comparing options, the conventionally powered Hyundai Staria is the closest alternative.

The Staria matches the PV5 on space and practicality but the PV5 runs on an all-electric powertrain, which cuts running costs for high-mileage operators. Few rival electric vans exist in this market, leaving the PV5 largely alone for fleets pursuing electrification.

Should You Buy It?

The Kia PV5 covers both use cases. Fleet managers in logistics and corporate transport get a practical electric range, fast charging, a modular bumper and V2L as standard. Private buyers get the Passenger model's large, configurable interior. Pricing has not been announced.
