2025 GMC Hummer EV: Features explained

Introduction

Over a decade after the H3 went out of production, General Motors unveiled the all-new Hummer EV in late 2020. Globally, the GMC Hummer EV Pickup arrived first, followed by the Hummer EV SUV in 2021. In the UAE, the GMC Hummer EV was launched in June 2024.

The base price of the 2025 GMC Hummer EV Pickup is AED 564,000, while the 2025 GMC Hummer EV SUV starts at AED 539,900. These are unarguably the most expensive General Motors trucks on sale in the UAE, but are they worth it? Let us look at some of their best features and see if the answer lies there.

2025 GMC Hummer EV: Top 10 features

1. Monster truck size

The gargantuan proportions of the Hummer Electric Pickup are bound to scare away motorists in smaller cars. Therefore, calling the Hummer Pickup a monster truck will not be much of a misnomer. It measures 5,507 mm in length, 2,223 mm in width (w/ ORVMs folded), and stands an impressive 2,009 mm tall at the roof.

The Hummer EV SUV tips the scales at over 3,900 kilograms, while the Pickup comes at a whopping 4,300 kilograms! Add to this the large 22-inch alloys or the bigger 35-inch mud-terrain tires, the GMC Hummer EV is no ordinary truck.

2. Looks very Hummer

As if its size was not enough, the slab-sided styling of the 2025 GMC Hummer EV will have people looking. Old-school Hummer cues such as the roof-mounted position lights, triple windscreen wipers, and ‘HUMMER’ grille branding are all still here. The same goes for the bulky front end, squared fenders, oversized mirrors, and broad shoulders.

Then there are the Hummer-branded taillights, LED DRLs replicating the Hummer logo, and the aforementioned ‘HUMMER’ grille with backlit LEDs. Combined with the muscular frame of this EV, it cannot be mistaken for anything else on the road.

3. Infinity Roof with Sky Panels

With its Infinity Roof design, the 2025 GMC Hummer EV is technically a targa top. This is a cool feature if you want to experience the outdoors without actually stepping out of the car. The roof of the Hummer EV consists of two cross members connected to the B & C pillars, two longitudinal I-bars, and four removable panels.

 

The front I-bar is also removable for an unhindered sky view, while the open spaces left by the roof panels can be covered with transparent glass panels (Sky Panels). This will not only keep the interior clean but also protect the occupants from outside weather.

4. Extreme Off-Road Package

Once equipped with this optional feature, owners will be able to explore the full potential of the Hummer EV’s off-road capabilities. The Extreme Off-Road Package protects the vulnerable underside of the Hummer EV with underbody armor. Reinforced steel plates safeguard the battery pack to prevent accidental punctures or tears.

There are heavy-duty skid plates mounted under the front and rear bumpers for bash protection against rocks. Meanwhile, the front and rear axles get reinforced steel plates as well. The aptly named ‘rock sliders’ are constructed from toughened steel, allowing them to simply slide over high obstacles. Moreover, they can be used as side steps for easy ingress and egress.

The Extreme Off-Road Package includes rear recovery hooks, special underbody cameras, and off-road-specific 18-inch wheels with beefy 35-inch mud-terrain tires to match. You also get an electronic front-locking differential and a virtual-locking rear differential. The latter uses software to force-lock the rear motors, thus keeping them spinning at the same speed.

5. Adaptive air suspension with ‘Extract Mode’

The adaptive air suspension system of the Hummer EV makes it ride quite well – both on and off the road. The suspension can be lowered for ease of entry/exit and loading/unloading of cargo. A lowered ride height has the effect of reducing the center of gravity, helping the massive Hummer EV handle slightly better.

 

If caught in a particularly tough situation, the driver can activate the Hummer EV’s ‘Extract Mode’. It raises the air suspension by as much as 6 inches, increasing the ground clearance to up to 406 mm! This can come in handy when fording deep water bodies or when traversing terrain with a lot of large obstacles.

6. Small car maneuverability with ‘CrabWalk’

To make driving the Hummer EV easier, General Motors has equipped it with ‘CrabWalk’. This feature is similar to four-wheel steering, but even more useful in a vehicle this size. Once activated, CrabWalk can turn the rear wheels in tandem with the front ones, up to a maximum of 10 degrees.

This will be enough, under most circumstances, to drive the Hummer EV diagonally at low speeds. The CrabWalk feature is primarily meant to ease maneuvering difficulties, especially in tight city spaces. However, it can also be used to make your way through narrow trails, which would otherwise pose a challenge.

7. Parking made easy with the Enhanced Automatic Parking Assist

The Enhanced Automatic Parking Assist will be a godsend when you need to park the Hummer EV in tight spaces. It works by detecting an ideal parking space with the help of sensors dotted along the front, sides, and rear of the vehicle. The system can automatically park the vehicle by manipulating the brakes, steering, and throttle.

It does not end there. When needed, the Hummer EV’s Enhanced Automatic Parking Assist can also be used to perform an unparking maneuver. If parked parallelly, the system can drive the car out of its assigned parking location with the same level of accuracy and safety.

8. A modern and feature-packed infotainment suite

The 2025 GMC Hummer EV comes with two high-definition digital displays. The Driver Information Center comprises a 12.3-inch screen encompassing a multitude of information and menu options, along with the compatibility of projecting trail maps. The 13.4-inch touch-infotainment screen is easy to reach owing to its size and placement.

The infotainment system packs in a ton of features and sub-menus, along with interactive 3D graphics linked to different options/menus. It comes as standard with built-in Google apps such as Google Play, Google Assistant, and Google Maps – the latter can locate charging stations as well. Drivers can also allocate up to six digital shortcut/auxiliary buttons on the main touchscreen.

9. Premium Bose audio with additional functionality

The 2025 GMC Hummer EV features a 14-speaker Bose premium audio system with surround-sound technology and AudioPilot Noise compensation. Aside from sounding good, the Bose system gets the so-called Electric Vehicle Sound Enhancement or EVSE. The EVSE feature mimics various sounds to go along with the available drive modes.

10. Immense power and convincing performance

The most powerful version of the GMC Hummer Electric SUV uses three electric motors – two powering the rear axle and one powering the front. Together, they generate up to 830 hp and a colossal 12,880 Nm of torque. A massive 170 kWh battery pack and an 800-volt architecture powers the whole system.

Meanwhile, the top-end GMC Hummer EV Pickup gets an even bigger 246.8 kWh battery pack energizing three synchronous electric motors. The result is a combined output of up to 1,000 hp and a truly bonkers 15,591 Nm of torque! The 0-100 kmph time of the Pickup is about 3 seconds while that of the SUV is around 3.5 seconds.

GMC has restricted the top speed of the Hummer EV to 170 kmph, likely due to safety reasons. The American EPA-estimated range of the Hummer EV Pickup and Hummer EV SUV is up to 613 kilometers and over 480 kilometers, respectively.
