2027 GMC Sierra 1500: New V8 lineup, Denali Ultimate and diesel choice

Next-generation. GMC's Sierra 1500 is out. Two newly developed sixth-gen Small Block V8 powerplants join the lineup and the cabin has been redesigned from scratch.

Sixth-Gen V8 Architecture

GMC has confirmed two new V8 engines for the 2027 Sierra 1500. Both come from the sixth-generation Small Block family, at 5.7 litres and 6.6 litres. All three petrol options use a 10-speed automatic. The pair slots in above the enhanced TurboMax.

At 6.6 litres, the larger V8 is the biggest displacement the Sierra has carried. It is also the most significant of the three powertrain additions.

Denali Ultimate Standard Kit

At the top of the 2027 Sierra 1500 range sits the Denali Ultimate. GMC equips it with the 6.6L Small Block V8 as standard, which the brand describes as its most powerful naturally aspirated engine ever.

Every trim level gets a redesigned cabin. But inside, the Denali Ultimate gets real wood accents and genuine wooden elements. Up front, the standard crew cab leads the class in both head room and leg room. Real wood and forged wood trim round off the Denali Ultimate's interior.

Inside, buyers get a panoramic sunroof and an all-new MultiPro centre console with expanded storage.

Off-Road and Diesel Strategy

GMC has expanded the Sierra's powertrain lineup. New hardware arrives on the AT4X, which keeps its off-road focus.

The Duramax diesel is class-exclusive, no comparable option exists in the F-150. For torque and fuel economy, it covers both ends. The enhanced TurboMax targets best-in-class standard torque for the segment.

Three engines serve GCC buyers: the V8, Duramax diesel and TurboMax.

Launch Timing and Market

Late 2026 is when GMC brings the sixth-generation Sierra 1500 to market.

Up front, the grille sits more vertically than before and quad exhaust outlets are available at the rear. The Signature headlamps and taillamps keep their familiar shape but gain an evolved design, and buyers who spec the animated greeting and goodbye sequences will notice them every arrival and departure. Digital trailering technology expanded on the updated platform as well.
