What features does the Toyota Innova Hycross get?

The Toyota Innova Hycross MPV had its global debut in 2023 and from the very beginning, the company has made the car available in a number of overseas markets. The two higher-spec variants are available in petrol-only models. The entry-level trim misses out on the silver highlights and garnish. But it's still a premium and thoroughly modern version of the standard Innova. The car appears imposing with a long flattish bonnet, an oversized grille and Toyota Fortuner-type headlights. The MPV gets all-around LED lighting. Along with the distinct character lines and design cues, the 2024 Toyota Innova Hycross gets squared-off wheel arches and plastic body cladding. These add a lot of muscle to the overall styling. But the 16-inch alloy wheels are rather thin and leave a large gap with the arch.

The entry-level Hybrid version gets a brown-black interior with a lot of padded materials. The two petrol-only versions get black seats and upholstery. Hard plastic can be found almost everywhere. But that doesn't upset the look and feel of the cabin. There are several dummy buttons that don't make a strong impression as the Hybrid. The fit and finish is good but could have been better. The rotary manual air-conditioner controls seem to be yanked off from a 90s budget car. The physical switchgear on the central console feels better damped.

The dashboard is dominated by an 8.0-inch full colour touchscreen infotainment unit connected to a multi-speaker audio system. The display is crisp and the icons are easy to operate. The driver's information panel has easy readouts. The top model gets automatic headlamps, automatic wipers, powered mirrors, a 9-speaker JBL audio system, connected tech, ambient lighting, and a panoramic sunroof.

How spacious is the Toyota Innova Hycross?

With 4,760mm length, 1,845mm width, 1,795 mm height, the 2024 Toyota Innova Hycross is a spacious MPV. Climbing into the driver's seat is a bit of a challenge because the hybrid unit causes a high floor. But visibility is great, courtesy the wide windscreen. The multifunction steering wheel is tilt-adjustable and telescopic and the driver's seat is powered. Finding a comfortable driving position is easy.

Both front seats are wider, supportive, and have ventilated functions. The footwells are larger than the standard Toyota Innova. 

The eight-seater version comes with a bench-type middle row and three adults can easily travel in comfort because of the sheer width of the cabin. The mid-row gets long fore-aft travel along with a reclining function for the backrest. The armrest is a bit flimsy though. The middle row doesn't get the tumble-down function. It slides forward to open the access area to the third row which is among the most spacious in class. Two adults can comfortably sit in the last row with decent legroom. The air-conditioning cools the cabin fast. 

What engine and transmission options are available?

The 2024 Toyota Innova Hycross Hybrid is equipped with a turbocharged, four-cylinder, 2.0-litre petrol engine that produces 150PS/188Nm. The motor is mated to a CVT with four-wheel-drive. The powertrain is immediately responsive and vibrations are kept under control. The speed build-up is gradual but smooth and the engine pulls cleanly. But the CVT is a bit of a letdown whenever the engine is revved to demand more power. It groans before responding. The steering is nicely balanced and facilitates quick overtaking on city roads. On highways, the 2024 Toyota Innova Hycross surprises as a cruiser. The suspension is well-balanced and absorbs even the worst bumps and potholes with minimum impact in the cabin.

The 2024 Toyota Innova Hycross starts in the electric mode and later shifts to the petrol motor. In that way it saves fuel. MPVs usually don't have a great fuel economy.     Step inside the cabin of the Toyota Innova Hycross, and you will be pleased by the fresh approach Toyota has followed for the cabin layout. Finished in a dual-tone black and burgundy upholstery, the cabin of the Innova Hycross looks very much upmarket compared to that of the previous Innova, which only gets better with newer features on board. The Innova Hycross is available with both a 7-seater configuration with captain seats in the middle row and an 8-seater configuration with a flat bench in the middle row.

    The driver’s cockpit of the Toyota Innova Hycross comprises of a newly-designed three-spoke multi-functional steering wheel and a new-generation full-TFT instrument console behind it. The centre console looks very much upmarket with a free-standing 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, below which there are rectangular AC vents and a gloss-black panel for the switches of automatic climate control. The lower slanted panel houses the transmission lever with satin silver surrounds.

    The cabin of the Toyota Innova Hycross feels very much premium over the previous Innova, and the credit for that goes to the enhanced features list too. Apart from the features mentioned above, the Toyota Innova Hycross also gets a panoramic sunroof, leather seats, powered front seats with ventilation function, paddle shifters, ambient lighting, push start-stop button and cruise control.

    Compared to the bulky-looking stance of the previous-generation Innova, the new Toyota Innova Hycross tries to look more contemporary with its sleeker and more modern styling, which makes it look very current-generation. It takes a few styling elements from the previous Innova and other global products like Veloz and RAV4.

    Take, for instance, the front hexagonal grille of the Toyota Innova Hycross, which looks very similar to that of the previous Innova. However, this grille looks fresher with a new honeycomb mesh and revised chrome garnish on the sides and lower part of the grille. The headlamps of the Innova Hycross look very sleek and feature an all-LED illumination while growing in size towards the outer part. The front bumper, with its tilted 7-shaped satin silver garnish around the dual-functioning daytime running LED strip, makes the front profile look aggressive.

    The Toyota Innova Hycross looks much sleeker and more modern than the outgoing Innova when viewed from the side, with the MPV having smooth curves flowing over the door panels while rising upwards. The MPV here comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, which look a bit small and undersized for a vehicle of this size. For an added sense of style, the Toyota Innova Hycross also comes with slim body cladding over the wheel arches and lower part of the door panels.

    At the back, the Toyota Innova Hycross carries a hint of RAV4 in its look, which is evident in the arrangement and design of the slightly slanted rear windscreen and sharp and sleek-looking set of LED tail lamps, only joined by a stretched V-shaped chrome garnish across the boot lid. The LED tail lamps have a stretched design towards the outer part.

The new monocoque frame of the Innova Hycross gives it a much more pleasant and refined driving experience while retaining the plush and comfortable ride quality the Innova has always had, courtesy of the Macpherson struts at the front and torsion beam at the rear. The Toyota Innova Hycross also comes with eco, power and EV modes for making your driving experience more specific and pleasurable.

    The new-generation Toyota Innova Hycross feels has a much more refined and tech-laden powertrain under its hood, compared to the ageing diesel engine of the previous Innova. This new-generation powertrain is a combination of a 2.0-litre four-cylinder Atkinson petrol engine, which produces 150 PS of power and 188 Nm of torque, and a front-mounted electric motor, which churns out 111 PS of power and 206 Nm of torque. With the combined action of engine and motor, the Innova Hycross claims a maximum fuel efficiency of 24.3 kmpl. The powertrain is also assisted by a nickel metal hydride battery.

    After using the previous generation used Innova for 5 years, and liking it every bit, I bought my new Innova in 2024. The Innova Hycross is my daily companion for business needs in Sharjah. The top variant of this car is loaded with all the features that I ever wished for and also comes at a very affordable price of under AED 140,000. Actually, the dealer was very helpful and also offered several accessories, and overall very good deal. I would recommend this Toyota car to, those who want reliability, with a powerful SUV that offers fun driving elements and practicality too.

  • Bold, Powerful and Tough

    The latest car we purchased is Innova Hycross which is a perfect family car and so comfortable. We didn't know what to expect at first . My wife wanted a suv car so that apart from daily use we can go for occasional trips as well and thanks to Toyota we have Innova-Hycross. The interior is so massive and has ample space for multiple baggage. On top of that the hybrid technology gives a brilliant fuel economy. The only weakness is that they are relatively expensive. The transmission is automatic and is quite smooth. The 2.0 L engine is great and can conquer any terrain be it rocky or mountainous patches.

  • Interior and Exterior Issues

    In my 2024 hycross I am facing issue with the front bumper triangular corner edge (right side) coming out after driving at high speed limit. every time when I push back it again comes out all the time. Moreover, the driving seat side support cover its grip (plastic make) also broke over time due to passenger weight while seated and i found its broken lock (hook type) underneath the seat last week which I was astonished to see. I have driven a lot of toyota vehicles but this one quality interior and exterior is very poor…on the contrary drive is good and comfortable.

  • Impressive performance, sub-standard interior

    I have spent around 4 months with the Toyota Innova Hycross, and this journey has been full of ups and downs. I don't have any complaints when it comes to the driving experience, and I'm able to achieve around 1.5 kilometers per liter on extended road trips. I appreciate the fact that it offers a quiet and comfortable ride experience. However, there are a few things that I do not like about this car. The door plastic quality is sub-standard, and the camera view is also not good, making it difficult to park the car in tight areas.

    We were looking for a reliable seven-seater car, and so many options in the market just confused us. However, after test driving several cars, the Innova seemed like a fantastic choice. The MPV provides a pleasurable driving experience and has sufficient space for eight adults. The massive grille on the front steals the show, it gives the car an intimidating look. Also, the standard fog lamps and 17-ich alloy wheels add to its edgy profile. On the inside, there is no shortage of entertainment and comfort features. Like all the Toyota cars, Innova also has a full-blown safety kit. I love my car and would recommend it to people interested in the segment.
