MG HS Hybrid

Design and Quality

The cabin of the HS Hybrid is truly impressive at this price point and in the overall segment. Not totally surprising, though, considering what Chinese brands are doing these days. The first thing you notice once inside the cockpit is the 27-inch panoramic display, two 12.3-inch screens merged into one seamless panel, which essentially dominates the dashboard in a way that the RAV4 Hybrid, Tucson Hybrid, and CR-V Hybrid at double the price cannot match visually.

The crystal-inspired gear selector is a tactile detail that touches every gear change and consistently makes everyone comment on it. The jewel-like ambient accents, leather-wrapped surfaces at primary touch points, and a floating center console with open storage below give the cabin a more considered, premium feel than the entry price implies. Honestly, some lower door and lower console surfaces are hard plastic, and buyers coming from a premium European brand will notice the difference. But for the HS Hybrid’s buyer profile and price, the cabin’s first impression is the strongest in its class and makes you think differently about the car. We are generally not accustomed to such a well-loaded and equipped cabin at this price point, which makes it quite remarkable.

Front Seat

Starting with features, there are heated front seats, driver memory, and a height-adjustable driver’s seat standard on both variants from the DEL entry. The lumbar support makes the front-seat position comfortable for UAE daily commuting, and the slightly elevated SUV height gives good forward visibility on the Sheikh Zayed Road approach and the Abu Dhabi Corniche. Ventilated seats are not confirmed as standard on either variant, and buyers who want ventilated seating specifically in UAE summer conditions should confirm availability with the MG UAE dealer at the point of purchase.

Electronic Parking Brake

The electronic parking brake is standard, along with Auto Hold and Hill Hold Assist.

Rear Seat

The HS Hybrid rear seat is quite well-positioned for the body length. The long wheelbase provides rear legroom that two adults can use comfortably in the city or on the E11 weekend family trip. Features like heated rear seats, ISOFIX, and rear cup holders are offered as standard.

The HS Hybrid manages the cabin climate for all passengers through zone control, which is essential for daily use in the UAE summer.

• Automatic climate control.
• Rear AC vents: direct second-row airflow for school runs and family use without restriction at any price point in the range.
• Air quality control.

Storage Options

• Centre console with covered storage and dual front cup holders
• Bottle holder
• Centre console armrest with storage
• Rear cup holders
• Door pockets front and rear
• A sizable glovebox

Armrest

A front center armrest is integrated into the floating console. The rear fold-down center armrest is also present. The HS Hybrid’s front armrest position is well matched to the SUV’s seating height for daily commute comfort.

Charging Options

• Wireless charging
• USB charger
• USB and auxiliary input
• Portable charging cable

Boot Space

The boot offers 441 liters with the rear seats in use, which goes up to 1,291 liters with the rear seats fully folded.

The HS Hybrid carries a Euro NCAP five-star safety rating and the MG Pilot ADAS suite.

• Euro NCAP five-star rating
• MG Pilot advanced driver assistance suite: lane change indicator and active lane management, blind spot detection, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic emergency braking are all active.
• 360-degree surround view camera
• Rear camera
• ABS with EBD
• Electronic Stability Programme
• Traction control
• Hill Hold Assist
• Tire Pressure Management System
• ISOFIX
• Engine immobility management
• Speed-sensing door locks
• Driver and passenger airbags; buyers should confirm the full airbag count with the MG UAE dealer.

The HS is a bold SUV, with a front end and LED signature lighting that looks more premium than you might expect for the price. Right at the front, you see sharp LED headlamps with a distinct daytime running light graphic and a wide lower air intake that gives the car a planted, athletic stance. The design is confident without being aggressive. The automatic LED headlamps, along with the LED DRLs, are standard. Clearly, the front makes a real statement that the vehicle is a modern hybrid SUV, not a budget shortcut. For buyers arriving at the DIFC valet or the Abu Dhabi business district, the HS Hybrid’s front does not look out of place at the price.

Side

The HS Hybrid’s side is where its dimensions tell the real story. At 4,670 mm long and 1,890 mm wide, this is quite a large compact SUV. The roofline flows cleanly into the rear, the body creases are well resolved, and the roof rails, standard from the DEL entry, give the side a more purposeful look than a plain roof would. The overall profile is balanced and modern. The 19-inch wheel size fills the arches correctly and avoids the visual under-specification that smaller wheels sometimes create on longer bodies.

Alloy Wheels

The 19-inch alloys with 225/55 R19 tires are standard throughout both UAE variants. The 19-inch setup with a 55-profile tire is a more comfortable combination than most 19-inch SUVs manage, because the tire sidewall retains enough depth to handle UAE road-surface variation. You will feel the speed humps on Sharjah community roads and Deira residential streets, but not harshly. It is an acceptable daily compromise given the visual stance the 19-inch wheels deliver on the 4,670 mm body.

Rear

At the rear are slim LED taillamps and a roof spoiler integrated into the tailgate. The overall rear design is clean and correctly finished, which again deserves special mention for the MG engineers who have worked to make the car look uniformly attractive from front to back, and they have been largely successful. There is a rear camera to help you park comfortably, especially when faced with a congested lane or a tight parking space.

City Performance

The HS Hybrid’s 340 Nm of torque, combined with the electric motor’s instant response, is the aspect that makes the biggest difference in UAE city driving.

• So if you are at the signal stops on Sheikh Zayed Road and the Business Bay morning roundabout approach, the hybrid’s electric motor contribution gives you the kind of immediate, quiet pull that is hard for petrol-only rivals at this price to replicate.
• Considering the mileage figures, UAE buyers who cover 30,000 km per year on the Abu Dhabi to Dubai commute will feel the impact in real monthly running costs.
• The 4,670 mm body needs care in DIFC and Abu Dhabi business district basement parking; the 360-degree camera on the LUX resolves the issue fully, and the DEL’s rear camera and sensors manage it rather well.
• The cabin’s 27-inch dual screen and crystal gear selector make every signal stop feel like real technology rather than just commuter equipment.

Highway Performance

In the UAE hybrid SUV segment, the HS Hybrid is mostly comfortable and a good choice.

• So at high-speed cruising on the E11, the 1.5L hybrid operates smoothly with the engine and electric motor stabilizing the load based on driving conditions; the transition between pure electric and combined mode is imperceptible in a steady highway cruise, which is exactly the hybrid character that UAE highway drivers want.
• The 221 hp and 340 Nm combined output make overtaking from Abu Dhabi to Dubai quick and easy. It is not the sharpest overtaker in the segment, but it is safe and meets all UAE motorway needs.
• The 1,287 km combined range means UAE owners covering the Abu Dhabi to Dubai to Sharjah weekly commute triangle do not need to think about fuel stops across a standard working week, which is the most immediately practical hybrid advantage the HS Hybrid delivers.
• Well-managed wind noise enhances highway comfort, even at 120 km/h. It may not be the best in the class, but it is not a concern.

Ride and Handling

The HS Hybrid rides with a comfort-focused refinement targeted at family SUV buyers.

• Whether it is the smooth Dubai and Abu Dhabi arterial roads or the E11, the overall ride comfort is excellent. With the 19-inch tires and 55-profile sidewall handling most of the surface texture, it is more cushioned than European compact SUVs at similar pricing and closer to the soft, family-first setup that UAE parents specifically appreciate.
• Switching to Sharjah’s older residential roads and speed-humped community approaches, the HS Hybrid manages impacts with composure; the 55-profile tire does real work here, and the ride is never harsh, though larger speed humps are felt more than in taller-profile tire setups.
• Cornering is predictable and safe for front-wheel drive; however, the HS Hybrid does not feel like a driver’s car, as the body roll during exits from the Abu Dhabi Corniche and approaches to the Dubai Marina roundabout is typical for family SUVs.
• Furthermore, the steering feels comfortable and easy in the city.

MG HS Hybrid DEL

At the start of the line, this variant gives you the full 1.5L hybrid powertrain, 221 hp, a 27-inch dual screen, 19-inch alloys, a rear camera, EPB, Auto Hold, a lane change indicator, blind spot detection, and MG Pilot ADAS. What is missing is automatic climate control, wireless charging, a 360-degree camera, heated seats, and driver memory.

MG HS Hybrid LUX

The MG HS Hybrid LUX is the complete HS Hybrid variant for you. In addition to the features available in the base variant, the LUX includes automatic climate control, wireless charging, a 360-degree camera, heated front and rear seats, a driver memory function, electric folding mirrors, and seat lumbar support.

Zigwheels Recommendation

With just the two variants to choose from, it is quite easy to go with the top-end LUX variant, where, for a small premium, you do not miss out on anything for a proper hybrid experience. For everyday Emirati drivers, the LUX is the recommended choice, with almost everything that matters offered at a rather reasonable price. This variant can certainly define your ownership experience well.

One thing is quite sure: hybrid is gaining ground in the UAE, and once the domain of Japanese brands, it is now increasingly being expanded by Chinese brands. The MG HS Hybrid is a good example of this, with a simple but truly competitive package. Clearly, it is not the most refined hybrid on the market, but it is not trying to beat those cars on their strongest points; rather, it comes in as a reasonably priced option.

Anyone considering a hybrid will find that the MG HS Hybrid offers a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating, 221 hp of combined hybrid output, a 27-inch cabin display that no rival at this price can match, and a 1,287 km combined range from a 55-liter tank, all starting from AED 96,900. All of these features make the HS Hybrid one of the most compelling entry points into hybrid ownership available in the UAE market today.
