One of the most premium and sportiest crossovers in its category, the MG HS ranks as one of the most popular and highest-selling models from MG across the world. Available in two variants, namely Comfort and Luxury, both of which differ in terms of drivetrain options, the MG HS is offered with a standard combination of a petrol automatic powered powertrain.
The MG HS has all the right to be called a premium crossover with the exquisite levels of quality and fit and finish panels throughout the cabin. One can choose from the two dual-tone interior upholstery options to choose from – red with black and beige with black.
‘Sporty’ is the word perfect for the cabin theme, with the MG HS getting sport bucket seats, multi-functional flat-bottom steering wheel with a sport mode button and a full TFT 12.3-inch instrument console consisting of vibrant colours and graphics. The dashboard too exhibits plush feel with a soft-touch leather finish and a scooped housing for the free-mounted 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The geometrically designed stretched AC vents and wide housing for the controls for AC make the centre console look broad.
MG has tried to make the HS feel like a proper luxury vehicle, an effort which is reflected by the presence of some really feel-good features like powered front seats with a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, dual-zone automatic climate control, electric tailgate, rear AC and keyless entry with push-button start.
While the MG HS doesn’t create any benchmarks with its simple design language, what makes it feel special is the consistency and flair in its design which makes it look classy and premium. The overall design looks like a more premium evolution of that of the MG ZS, a good thing to start with.
At the front, the MG HA has got the same front grille with rounded edges and premium looking chrome boundary around it. At the upper edges of this front grille are attached to the wing-like headlamp assemblies, which do are integrated with LED projectors and daytime running LEDs. The chrome housings for the front fog lamps along with silver skid plates in the front bumper further enhance the premium quotient.
On the sides, the MG HS has softly styled contours towards the rear above the rounded wheel arches above the 18-inch machined alloy wheels, with the latter along with the lower portion of doors having blackened cladding work. Here too, the premium quotient is taken care of by machined alloy wheels and chrome bordering around the window line. The rear profile of the MG HS looks premium with LED tail lamps, which too are stretched out like a bird’s wings.
Much like in modern-day crossovers and SUVs, the MG HS too us equipped with multiple drive modes like Eco, Normal, Comfort and Sports, as per which one can enjoy his driving dynamics as per his preference. The all-wheel-drive system on the HS works flawlessly, however, the soft suspension setup and limited ground clearance mean that it is not a proper out and out off-roader.
The MG HS, in its UAE spec version, has been bestowed with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, which paired to the 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission is the only powertrain combination available for the SUV. The engine belts out a maximum power output of 231 PS and a peak torque output of 360 Nm. The top speed of the MG HS is rated at 210 kmph.
The MG HS has some really appreciable safety features in its kitty, like the front, side and curtain airbags, hill start assist, cruise control, blind-spot detection, electric parking brake, front and rear parking sensors and parking camera, ABS with EBD and brake assist.
With the levels of fit and finish, equipment levels and flair in its exterior design, the MG HS feels one notch above the rest of the competition, giving it a feel of having a premium vehicle at an affordable price.
