Cabin

The cabin is quite decent for the segment, and many high-end features attract attention, given the price point. For example, the premium leather seats, which feature a sporty design theme, run through the cabin. They are paired with a digital instrument panel and a large central entertainment screen for vehicle control. The ambient lighting provides a nice atmosphere at night, tying into the H6's sportier positioning. The digital instrument panel switches between a standard readout and a sportier layout that moves the rev counter to the centre. It's a small touch that matters to buyers who care about how a dashboard looks and feels, not just what it displays.

The wired support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is standard. If you prefer wireless connectivity, rivals must keep a cable in the glovebox.

The entertainment is taken care of by a 12-speaker Dynaudio sound system, standard on Flagship, dropping to 8 speakers on the entry Luxury grade. Also, the PM2.5 air purification runs alongside dual-zone climate control, useful during Dubai's dustier months.

Front

A sharply detailed front grille has Hongqi's signature style, framed by LED headlights built from 21 individual points for a bolder look than a conventional projector unit. The overall face reads more athletic than the H5's, without losing the formal touches that mark it out as a Hongqi.

Side Profile

A subtly lower roofline gives the H6 a crouched, purposeful stance even standing still; the clearest visual tell that separates it from the H5 parked beside it. The aerodynamic side lines were shaped to reduce air resistance rather than purely for visual effect, Hongqi says. At 4,991mm long on a 2,920mm wheelbase, it sits close in size to a Honda Accord.

Alloy Wheels

• The tyre roar off the 19-inch wheels stays impressively contained even past 140 km/h, though wind noise around the mirrors picks up a touch beyond that
• Cruise control holds a steady gap through changing traffic density without hunting some systems at this price
• A long run-out toward Abu Dhabi is where the firmer suspension pays for itself, with the H6 tracking straighter than the softer H5 at the same speed, especially through the long sweeping curves near the Ghantoot border checkpoint

Ride and Handling

• Push through the roundabouts near Dubai Silicon Oasis with real intent, and body roll stays noticeably better contained than the H5 manages over the same stretch
• The steering carries a touch more weight than the H5's, giving you more to lean on through a corner without ever turning heavy at parking speed
• That firmness pays off again on Sheikh Zayed Road, the H6 tracking straighter at speed than its softer-riding sibling, the extra body control noticeable the moment a lane change turns into a quick dodge around slower traffic
• In daily drive you feel the trade-off over Dubai's rougher patches, the ride sitting on the firm side of comfortable rather than soft, though it stops short of upsetting rear passengers on every bump
• Brake hard or need to swerve suddenly, and the firmer tune pays dividends again, the car changing direction with less delay than a softer setup would allow

Hongqi offers the H6 in the UAE across two variants. The powertrain is a common 2.0-litre turbo engine, 8-speed automatic, and front-wheel drive.

Luxury

The entry point into the H6 range, and the Luxury variant comes with microfibre leather and PVC seat trim, 8-speaker Dynaudio audio, and the full standard safety suite. If you want the H6's sportier styling and performance without paying for the Flagship's nicer seat material or massage function.

Flagship

On this top-end, you get additional features like premium leather with chamois-leather accents, a driver's seat massage function, and 12-speaker Dynaudio audio over the Luxury grade. If you are willing to pay a little more, the H6 is available in its most complete and best-equipped form.

Zigwheels Recommendation

For most buyers, the Flagship is worth the step-up. This is because it comes with a driver's seat massage function and upgraded leather rather than any change in performance. Both grades share the same engine and suspension tune throughout. And so if you mainly care about the H6's sportier styling and standard safety features and are comfortable with microfibre leather, you will lose little by sticking with the Luxury grade.

This is a genuine offer. In the mid-size sedan market today, there are some key brands that most buyers prefer. For new brands like Hongqi, the real competition for the H6 is not necessarily a Honda Accord or Kia K5 GT.

It is actually the H5 parked next to it in the same Hongqi showroom. Choose the H6 for the dual exhaust, the darker 19-inch wheels, and body control that stays noticeably tighter through a roundabout, and accept a firmer everyday ride in exchange.

But if you want Hongqi's comfort-first take on this platform, you should walk straight past the H6 and into the H5 instead. The H6 is the easy choice for those who want the sportiest sedan that Hongqi currently sells in the UAE and are willing to sacrifice some ride comfort for it.

The good thing is there's no extra cost over its sibling, either.
