Sonic audio system is packed inside in MP3 enabled CD player, 7-inch Chevrolet MyLink color touchscreen through which you can play audios & videos connecting your phone, navigation, browse over Internet, Bluetooth integrated with SIRI, eyes free mode, iPod, USB connectivity and much more. This touchscreen also acts as displayer when parking the vehicle. In short, it is designed in such a way that it is always easy to handle the vehicle.

Exteriors

Available in two body types – hatchback and sedan, Chevrolet Sonic offers you choice to select from available trim matching your requirement and needs. Both the cars follow similar trade line except the different rear profile; sedan has a slopping rear facade whilst hatchback appears straight & vertical on its rear face with slightly elongated roof spoiler. 5-spoked alloy wheels comes fitted under overtly designed fenders in wheel size 15/16 inch. Overall dimensions of sedan are measured as 4397mm x 1735mm x 1516mm and for hatchback these measure 4039mm x 1735mm x 1517mm (L x W x H). Wheelbase for both the cars remains same i.e. 2525mm.

Engine, Mileage & Variants

Chevrolet Sonic is available in two different body styles; sedan and hatchback packed in 1.6-litre, in-lined 4 cylinder 16V DOHC petrol engine. This 1.6-litre engine is coupled with 5-speed manual & 6-speed automatic transmission in three trim levels – Base 1.6 MT, Base 1.6 AT and LS 1.6 AT. Motor house gives maximum power output of 115 hp at 6000 rpm along with the peak torque of 155 Nm at 4000 rpm. With multi-point fuel injection system, it takes fuel consumption of 6.4 L/100km for Base 1.6 MT variant. Whereas, other two trim levels delivers mileage count of 7.1 l/100km in combined driving cycle. Top speed of the vehicle is 186 kmph and accelerates from 0-100 kmph speed mark in 11.7 seconds.

Safety, Braking and Miscellaneous

Coming to the safety and handling aspect, Sonic is equipped with features that boosts your confidence irrespective of the road your traverse. When parking and taking reverse gears, touchscreen automatically starts functioning as rear view camera so that it becomes easy for you to get the correct pathway. It is packed with sporty suspension system developed in Chevrolet unit and assembled with anti-lock braking system that gives you easy access in tricky conditions. Besides this, passive safety systems are employed in the car such as safety airbags for driver and front passenger, ISOFIX child seat restraint, rear parking assist, LED center high-mounted stop/brake (CHMSL), door locks, fog lamps and more.

Verdict

Chevrolet Sonic is the most silent and affordable subcompact car in the segment that is easy to handle, features large trunk space, good stereo system & comparatively delivers decent fuel economy. The only reason for which you may not like it is the interior room and packed other utility features at which Hyundai Accent & Ford Fiesta leads the market.
