Volkswagen Scout EVs to be revealed globally on October 24

ABU DHABI: Scout Motors, Volkswagen Group's new EV brand, has released a teaser announcing that it will unveil its new electric SUV and electric pickup truck on October 24. The newly established U.S.-based subsidiary will be responsible for developing both vehicles.

Scout Motors plans to begin producing both electric vehicles by early 2026 at a new facility near Columbia, South Carolina. The plant may also be used to assemble other Volkswagen Group models. Scout is working with Magna International on the development of these vehicles, which will be built on a new body-on-frame platform.

Teasers showcase the new models with retro-futuristic, squared-off designs that seem to be inspired by the original International Harvester Scout II, which was produced between 1971 to 1980. Both these concepts boast kinked C-pillars and vertically stacked tail-lights, with higher versions expected to include potential road-focused options and rugged all-terrain tyres.

The Scout pickup and SUV will use a new ladder-frame platform different from the PPE and MEB architectures used internationally. This new platform has been designed specifically for the vehicles designed by Scout Motors, marking a shift from the standard electric vehicle frameworks of VW.

Production of the Scout SUV is expected to begin in 2026, with Volkswagen Group planning to gradually scale up factory output. The goal is to reach an annual production rate of around 200,000 units, reflecting the company's commitment to establishing a strong presence and meeting the growing demand in the electric vehicle market.
