Toyota set to introduce new SUV in global markets

ABU DHABI: Toyota is working on its brand new rugged SUV that will most likely get the 'FJ Cruiser' moniker, as per the reports. It is expected to enter the production stage in November 2024. The new Toyota FJ Cruiser rugged SUV will go on sale in Thailand first before being introduced in other global markets.

The new Toyota SUV is anticipated to have a boxy design, complemented by chunky wheel arches that will enhance its rugged appeal. Dimension-wise, the SUV will be 1,850 mm in height, 1,830 mm in width, and 4,500 mm in length, positioning it below the Fortuner SUV. The upcoming SUV will share the same 2,750 mm wheelbase as the Innova Crysta and the Fortuner.

While Toyota has not released enough details of the upcoming SUV, it is anticipated that Toyota will offer its new rugged SUV in multiple powertrain options. Diesel engines falling in the range from 2.4 to 2.8 litres and a 2.7-litre petrol engine can be easily accommodated by the IMV 0 platform.

Although, in the UAE, there is a need for a budget-friendly Toyota rugged SUV that falls below the Fortuner, it's still not clear if the new FJ Cruiser will make its way here. As the global debut approaches more details are expected to be revealed, keeping SUV fans eagerly awaiting updates in the UAE.
