Renault to develop new pickup truck based on Duster SUV

ABU DHABI: Following the previous Duster Oroch’s footsteps, Renault is all set to transform the third-generation Duster into a pickup truck. Renault aims to bring a successor to the Oroch resembling the Niagara concept (pictured above) and based on the latest Duster platform.

Built upon the redesigned CMF-B platform Renault's upcoming pickup promises versatility and robust performance across various terrains. It lacks traditional 4WD yet has impressive off-road capability. The upcoming pick-up truck will first be launched in South America as these cars are in huge demand over there.

The Duster-based pickup seeks inspiration from the Renault Niagara concept. It will have a rugged design, emphasizing off-road-ready appearance and blending many of the elements from the standard Duster. This shift from the simplicity of Duster Oroch aims to appeal to drivers looking for a dynamic driving experience.

While specific engine details have not been revealed, it is expected that the lineup will offer both petrol-hybrid and petrol options. Some variants may be equipped with a mild-hybrid petrol engine with an e-axle at the rear and front-wheel drive for enhanced efficiency and performance.

The Duster-based pickup could come with right-hand drive versions in order to target markets like South Africa. This move will help in positioning Nissan and Renault entry-level pickups as strong competitors to the Mahindra Scorpio X pickup.

Nissan and Renault's move to build a Duster-based pickup signifies a strategic entry into the pickup market to offer a versatile vehicle merging off-road prowess with utility. Their debut in international markets aims to disrupt competition giving more options to consumers seeking rugged yet practical vehicles.
