Fastback Drama vs Sensible Sedan Charm

The MG GT looks the part, with a waterfall-style grille, a fastback roofline, a ducktail spoiler and split 3D LED tail lamps. The Arrizo 5 has a more traditional sedan shape with a bold grille. The Chery comes in six colours, while MG offers York White as standard and Black Pearl, Flare Red and Andes Grey as options.

MG's cabin is inspired by fighter jets, with a driver-focused layout, dual-tone trim and an aircraft-style gear shifter. Chery's is calmer and more traditional, with leather seats, a six-way manual driver's seat and folding rear seats. Only the MG GT 1.5T trims get an electric sunroof, and the LUX adds an electric driver's seat.

Safety: Where the MG Pulls Ahead

The top MG GT has six airbags, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Emergency Lane Keep Assist, Traffic Jam Assist and a 360-degree camera. The base GT 1.5L COM is simpler, with two front airbags, a rear camera and cruise control. The Arrizo 5 also lists two airbags and adds a rear camera and radar, tyre pressure monitoring and cruise control. Chery lists ADAS but does not detail the functions.

If you want sporty looks, a big screen and the most safety technology, the MG GT 1.5T LUX is the stronger car, though it costs about AED 22,000 more. If you want a comfortable commuter for the lowest price, the Arrizo 5 makes a lot of sense, with leather seats, cruise control and CarPlay. The GT 1.5L COM sits close to the Arrizo 5 on price, so a test drive of both is worthwhile.
