Genesis Neolun concept gives a sneak peek at Maybach GLS rival

ABU DHABI: Genesis has given a sneak peek at the Neolun concept, revealing its plan to enter the upper-large SUV segment to compete with Mercedes-Benz GLS, BMW X7, and Land Rover Range Rover. Unveiled in New York, the concept is thought to be a preview of the all-electric GV90 positioned above the updated GV80.

The Neolun Concept is inspired by moon-shaped Korean porcelain jars and it previews Genesis' first full-size SUV that will most probably be named the GV90. This model will be all-electric but the performance details have not been disclosed yet.

Hyundai Genesis Neolun concept blends Maybach influence with exceptional styling, featuring coach doors like Rolls-Royce. It boasts a reductive design along with twin lights. Painted in  Majestic Blue and Midnight Black, it gives the impression of the night sky.

On the inside, it has bold colours like Royal Indigo cashmere and Purple Silk leather giving it a concept feel. It boasts an "ondol" heating system and a real wood floor. In the front, a crystal sphere spins to reveal a tweeter, and for rear passengers, there's an adjustable screen.

The EV is expected to debut in 2025 and will most likely use the 'e-GMP' electric vehicle architecture that has also been used in Kia EV9 and Hyundai Ioniq 5. It is also expected to have enhanced autonomous driving features and dual motors for all-wheel-drive. While it may not have pillarless doors, it will most likely become the flagship model, supporting the sales growth of the brand.
