Toyota Land Cruiser Pick Up

One look at the exterior of the Toyota Land Cruiser pickup is enough to make one realize that there’s nothing modern about the interior of this utilitarian pickup truck from the bygone era. However, the Land Cruiser pickup feels decent with its all-beige upholstery with contrasting faux wood and silver inserts.  

The driver’s cockpit of the Toyota Land Cruiser pickup looks functional, with its four-spoke steering wheel and an all-analogue instrument console behind it. The centre console here looks wide and rectangular-themed, with two split units for the infotainment system – a free-standing screen at the top and a control panel in a gloss black finish below it.

The control panel for the manual AC in the lower centre console looks primitive, while the co-passenger side of the dashboard here has a dual glovebox arrangement with a grab handle bar. The Toyota Land Cruiser pickup is equipped with just the essentials like power windows, tilt and telescopic-adjustable steering wheel, and leather-wrapped steering wheel.

As mentioned above, the Toyota Land Cruiser pickup is based on the LC70 Land Cruiser from the yesteryears, which explains its dated looks. Compared to all the other modern SUVs, the Toyota Land Cruiser pickup looks out of place with its bare-bones, old-school design, which is purely functional and purposeful.

At the front, the Toyota Land Cruiser pickup gets the simple fascia of the LC70, which consists of a rectangular grille fully surrounded by chrome and gets a chrome bar in the middle. The rectangular headlamps flanking the grille come attached with stretched-back turn indicators. The front bumper of the Toyota Land Cruiser pickup is a plastic unit, which gets a silver bash plate in the middle and provisions for rounded fog lamps.

The side profile of the Toyota Land Cruiser pickup looks very basic in its appeal, with it having a couple of sharp character lines and squared wheel arches. These, along with the angular door panels, still look very much from the ‘70s. While the front wheel arches come with silver moulding over them, the Toyota Land Cruiser pickup also comes with 16-inch alloy wheels and chrome-finished door handles and rearview mirrors.

At the back, the Toyota Land Cruiser pickup gets simple-looking rectangular housings for the tail lamps on the bottom corners of the rear deck lid, which has wide Toyota lettering spread across its width.

The Toyota Land Cruiser pickup has a very functional chassis setup, comprising of a suspension combination of rigid axle coil setup at the front and rigid axle leaf springs at the rear. This suspension combination translates into a rigid ride quality, which is nowhere near to other modern Toyota SUVs in terms of comfort. However, this suspension setup makes it an excellent vehicle to combat off-road terrains and bad roads.

The major contributor to the image of the Toyota Land Cruiser pickup as a reliable vehicle is its 4.0-litre naturally-aspirated V6 petrol engine. This old-school engine, which is available only with a 5-speed manual gearbox, produces a maximum power output of 228 bhp and a peak torque output of 370 Nm.

The safety equipment list of the Toyota Land Cruiser pickup is very basic, with the pickup getting dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, vehicle stability control, traction control and hill hold assist.

The Toyota Land Cruiser pickup might not be a vehicle of today’s day and age, with its old-school design and features list from the bygone era making it look like a dated proposition. However, it is all about a no-nonsense workhorse which puts function over form and impresses with its reliable mechanicals and go-anywhere ability.
