MG RX8 Updates

The MG has not updated RX-8 for the 2024 model year in the UAE and it still comes priced at AED 96,191 in the market. Powering the RX8 is a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that makes 225 PS of power and 360 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a six-speed automatic gearbox. Standard features on the RX8 include a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, dual-zone climate control, leather upholstery, a panoramic sunroof, heated and powered front seats, a 360-degree camera, wireless charging, etc. Mercedes Benz G-Class and Lexus LX are the competitors of the RX8 in the market.

MG RX8 Expert Review

The MG RX8, with its seven-seater layout and squared yet contemporary design, promises a great combination of stance of a modern SUV and practicality of a MUV. The MG RX8 in UAE is available in three different variants – while the base STD variant is being offered with a rear-wheel drivetrain, the COM and LUX trims are offered with a four-wheel-drive system, all of which come with a common petrol automatic powertrain.

Interior

While the MG RX8 has a posh and rather extrovert design when viewed from the outside, it is the interior cabin which has a subtlety to it. The whole interior, though, feels luxurious with the rich in feel brown leather upholstery with the right amount of silver and faux wood finishes at places.

The dashboard looks tad too simple for an SUV of this stature, with a flat-bottom steering wheel and a rectangular housing for touchscreen infotainment system tapered towards lower edges. The quilted leather seats and door pads do add to the premium experience, and so is the extensive list of features, with a panoramic sunroof, electrically adjustable and heated front seats, 360-degree camera and wireless smartphone charging to name a few.

Being a seven-seater vehicle, the MG RX8 does feel large on the inside, with a great sense of space. However, the third row is best suitable for kids with limited knee room on offer.

Exterior

The MG RX8 tries to stand out from the crowd of modern-day SUVs with its conventional boxy stance fused with a couple of distinctive design elements.

At the front, the MG RX8 looks wide and bold with a big trapezoidal chrome grille, which is flanked by blocky but angular full LED headlamps, which do have crystal-cut like dual projectors and daytime running LEDs within them. What, however, catches one’s attention is the four-squared fog lamps encased in a C-shaped chrome housing.

The side profile of the MG RX8 reminds one much of the Mercedes Benz GLS, with its angular stance, sharp character line flowing through the centre and the chrome garnished waistline rising upwards towards the C-pillar. The large 20-inch machined alloy wheels, along with big roof rails, do add some more premium appeal to it.

At the rear, the MG RX8 has a busy but not too dramatic design, which is characterised by large and stretched LED tail lamps with rounded edges joined by a sleek chrome bar. The large silver skid plate with exhaust outlets in both of its outer edges do add some sporty touch.

Ride & Handling

It is the four-wheel-drive variant of the MG RX8 which is worth going for. The reason behind this is the availability of six different drive modes in this variant – auto, 4L, off-road, snow, sport and 2H, all of which vary in terms of power delivery to the wheels for varying driving preferences. The body roll at higher speeds can be felt a bit, however, the low-speed ride is brilliant with soft suspension setup.

Engine & Fuel Consumption

The MG RX8 has a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine coupled to a 6-speed torque converter, which happens to be the only powertrain combination for this large SUV. The engine is good enough to produce a maximum power output of 225 PS and a peak torque output of 360 Nm. The engine is refined and has a good mid-range performance to propel this large SUV with ease.

Braking & Safety

With a C-NCAP rating of 5-stars, the MG RX8 is indeed a safe vehicle to be in, the prowess of which is characterised by the presence of front, side and curtain airbags, front and rear parking sensors with 360 degree camera, cruise control, active rollover protection, tire pressure monitoring system and lane departure warning.

Verdict

The MG RX8 is a great package when you factor in its positive attributes like bold exterior styling, plush and comfortable interiors, an extensive list of features, refined performance and cushy ride quality – al of which make it a great sensible option to go for.

  • Extremely Disappointed with MG RX8 2020 and MG Service Never Again

Extremely Disappointed with MG RX8 2020 and MG Service – Never Again I purchased the MG RX8 (2020 model) from an MG showroom in the UAE, and my experience has been nothing short of a nightmare from day one. Initial Experience (2020-2021): Just 30 minutes after taking delivery of the brand-new car, smoke started coming from the bonnet. The issue was diagnosed as a coolant problem. How can a brand-new car overheat within half an hour of delivery? After a few days, they returned the vehicle, only for the exact same issue to happen again – overheating and smoking. It took them over a month to return the vehicle after replacing several parts. Later, while charging my phone using the inbuilt wireless charger, the entire electrical system shut down and the car stalled in the middle of a busy Dubai road. They blamed the issue on my phone case (which was MagSafe), which makes no sense. Instead of fixing the charger, they simply disconnected it without my consent and said the issue might repeat if left as is. Unacceptable. Ongoing Problems (2023-2025): Despite repeated complaints, MG failed to resolve several serious issues: • Transmission noise between 40-60 km/h – a loud, worrying sound that got worse after each service. • Persistent steering and body vibrations while driving and especially while turning full left. • Turbo failure before 80,000 km, followed by engine oil sludge issues. • Poor service quality during the 80k km service – the car was returned dirty and misaligned. • Every time we raised a concern, they either said it was “normal” or claimed to have fixed it, when clearly, they had not. MG Service in Dubai – The Worst I’ve Experienced: The service centers are unresponsive, unprofessional, and clearly not equipped to handle or resolve technical issues seriously. Their “solutions” were either temporary or careless, often making the situation worse. In 2025, I finally sold the vehicle. My experience with the MG RX8 was extremely frustrating and disappointing. I will never purchase an MG again and strongly advise others to be cautious before considering one Do not recommend MG RX8 or MG service centers in Dubai.

  • Dynamic and premium SUV-like Chinese car from MG

I was long under the impression that Chinese cars are hideous when it comes to their looks. My entire notion was broken as I came across Mg rx8. I was pretty fascinated to have a glimpse of its massive size and bold appearance. Its magnificent presence is again a praiseworthy factor associated with this car. The model is absolutely proportionate. I fell in love with its premium quality SUV like looks almost instantly. The car looks ravishing with its LED head and tail lamps other than LED fog lamps, and 20 inches alloy wheels. I also liked the fact that its third row can more or less accommodate any average-sized adult person.

Worse experience ever. Car advertised to come with Android Auto and it doesnt work. Advised to go to service center by sales team. Car stuck there for over 10 days and nothing they can do to fix. False advertising in order to Sale. Worse after sales service ever. No one picks up the phone at the service center. Please stay away from this cheap brand.

  • Very bad experience

I won’t recommend anyone to buy this car, I was facing vibrations issues from day one, I complained several times but unfortunately no cooperation, no good after sale service, actually bad staff to deal with, they don’t know ABC of marketing, no one will handle your complaint unless you talk to the head office or Ms. Alia in Dubai office (professional & wonderful person I’ve ever known).

  • Service of MG is a Rip-off

Just got my MG RX8's 60k service done with the Dealer. Costed me over 1500 Dhs, they change the spark plugs for every 20k, I wonder why! As I know, spark plugs can easily last beyond 100k without replacement, please correct me if I am wrong. Just the labour cost was over 500 Dhs in the bill, phew!

  • Good car with bad service support

I got the MG RX8 in Feb this year after a wait time of one year. The car itself is very good with few issues that makes it get 3 stars. High fuel consumption. I'm this class and price point you have options available with better fuel efficiency. Bad service support. My first 10K service date was given to mye after 2 months. I booked in April and the date given to me was June 15. Other option given to me to go to Abu Dhabi while I am in Dubai. The screen shows an error of Pre sales hardware and not for sale. Why has it been put in there? No answer from service team. The need to improve the service in order to make this car worth it.

  • Fabulous edition of seven seater SUV

While I first came across this seven seater SUV I was highly astonished. I was highly impressed to figure how much miles the brand has traverse over the years. Initially they launched double seater sportscars as far as I can recall. Unlike any hideous looking Chinese model this is boasting its bold and big self with utmost pride. The overall presence of the car is absolutely magnificent. The interior portion looks way clean and minimal due to the least presence of knobs and buttons. Though there is adequate usage of plastic within that is leather covered.
