GAC GA6

The interior layout of the GAC GA6 might remind you of more premium sedans that nowadays come with huge screens for the driver’s cockpit. The sedan is offered with a dual-tone black and brown theme for the cabin, along with gloss black and satin silver bits at many places.

The three-spoke multi-functional steering wheel, which has satin silver inserts in its spokes and both tilt and telescopic adjustments, has a huge trapezoidal housing for the driver’s cockpit behind it. This cockpit has a 7-inch TFT MID between analogue gauges in the instrument console and an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system on the other side of the housing. The sleek panel below the infotainment screen housing combines buttons for the audio system and climate control.

The spacious and feature-rich cabin of the GAC GA6 is further equipped with amenities like a 6-speaker audio system, a push start-stop button, dual-zone automatic climate control, rear AC vents, leather seats, 6-way powered driver’s seat, 60:40 split rear seats, sunroof and air purifier.

For a sedan like the GAC GA6, combining elegance and sportiness in one package is a tough job. However, the GA6 does that job effortlessly with its bold design, which also looks premium and subtle without going overboard.

Taking inspiration from the larger GN6 van, the front profile of the GAC GA6 is its boldest-looking angle. The cascading grille, which comes with three horizontal chrome slats, has wing-like headlamps housings on its upper corners, which come integrated with halogen projectors and daytime running LEDs. The almost trapezoidal blacked-out housings for the fog lamps have T-shaped chrome garnish positioned below them.

From the side, the GAC GA6 has a sense of elegance, particularly due to the long wheelbase of the sedan. Accentuating its length, even more, is the long crease flowing from the edge of the headlamp to that of the tail lamp and the slightly coupe-like roofline. The 16-inch alloy wheels (machined 17-inch units in the GL variant), along with chrome surrounds for the window frame, and door-mounted rearview mirrors with LED turn indicators integrated into them add more richness to its design.

At the back, the GAC GA6 looks wide, thanks to the horizontally laid LED combination tail lamps and a connecting LED light bar running between the tail lamps across the width of the boot lid, along with a chrome strip above it. There is more chrome in the form of a long strip flowing across the length of the diffuser while engulfing reflectors on either side.

While the GAC GA6 might not be equipped with dedicated drive modes, the suspension combination of Macpherson struts at the front and independent multi-link beam at the rear is a comfort-oriented setup, ensuring plush ride quality. However, the light steering setup might not be suitable for everyone’s taste, particularly those who prefer more heft at higher speeds.

Powering the GAC GA6 is a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, which has been shared with other GAC offerings. This powertrain option, which is the only engine available in the GAC GA6, is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission as standard, generating a maximum power output of 169 PS and a peak torque output of 265 Nm. The maximum fuel efficiency claimed by GAC GA6 is 15.15 kmpl.

Equipped with features like six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability program, traction control, hill start assist, electronic parking brake, tyre pressure monitoring system 180-degree rear parking camera and reverse parking sensors, the GAC GA6 is decently loaded in terms of safety features.

The GAC GA6 features an elegant yet sporty design, which along with the decently-equipped and spacious cabin, makes up for a great choice as a family car for younger buyers.
