Ford Mustang Mach 1

On the inside, things are pretty much similar to the standard Mustang, with the cabin layout and most of the features retained from the former. However, to make things feel more special, sportier and exclusive, the Ford Mustang Mach-1 gets colour-accented front and rear seats with heating and ventilation functions. Ford also offers the option of Recaro sport seats at an added cost for the Mach-1 Mustang.

The cabin of the Ford Mustang Mach-1 feels properly modern with a full-TFT 12-inch instrument cluster, which comes with multiple display modes and Mach-1-specific fonts and graphics. The centre console is dominated by an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, while there are a host of buttons and switches for the 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system and dual-zone automatic climate control systems in the lower centre console.

The Ford Mustang Mach-1 is also bestowed with a few other comfort and convenience features like Ford’s SYNC 3 system with voice recognition, powered front seats, ambient lighting, USB charging ports and leather seats.

It might be on the verge of being replaced by an all-new, sharper-looking, seventh-generation model gradually around the world, but the sixth-generation Ford Mustang is still a look from every angle. The Mach-1 version of the Ford Mustang just makes the already aggressive-looking sports car even sportier with a range of visual tweaks and add-ons.

The front profile of the Ford Mustang Mach-1 gets the same hexagonal grille with rounded edges as the other versions of the Mustang. However, the grille here looks different with slightly rounded air intakes integrated into its sides, along with a new honeycomb mesh design for the grille inserts. The front bumper here is also new, with its getting larger trapezoidal air dam in the middle and faux air dams below the horizontal fog lamps on the corners of the bumper.

The angular headlamps with LED projectors and sequential LED turn indicators, which also double up as daytime running LEDs, are the same as the regular Mustang. More visual change can be seen on the front bonnet, where the Ford Mustang Mach-1 gets hood scoops and a contrasting red U-shaped design highlight between them.

The side profile of the Ford Mustang Mach-1 also looks tweaked over the standard sixth-generation Mustang. While the Mach-1 also has the same long profile with a stretched bonnet and low-slung pony car stance with tapered roofline as the regular Mustang, the former gets different 19-inch tarnished dark-painted low gloss alloy wheels. The bottom of the door panels here also gets black and red stripes, enhancing its sporty appeal.

The rear profile of the Ford Mustang Mach-1 retains the iconic tri-bar all-LED tail lamp setup housed within the corners of a stretched gloss black bar as the regular Mustang. However, the rear bumper here is different and looks sportier with an aggressive-looking diffuser and revised exhaust ports.

For a more spirited driving experience, the Ford Mustang Mach-1 comes with six driving modes – Normal, Sport+, Snow/Wet, Track, Drag Strip and My Mode, which make it the most involving version of the Mustang to drive. The suspension has also been tuned with a stiffer setup for better traction and grip levels while driving at higher speeds, however, the cornering ability of the Mustang Mach-1 is still not at the levels of more premium European sports cars.

The Ford Mustang Mach-1 retains the iconic 5.0-litre naturally-aspirated V8 petrol engine from the regular Ford Mustang. However, Ford Performance has tuned this engine for a more spirited driving experience and faster acceleration. The engine is offered with both the options of a 6-speed manual and a 10-speed automatic transmission, with the performance numbers being 470 bhp of power and 556 Nm of torque. This rear-wheel drive sports car claims 9.3 kmpl for the manual and 9.9 kmpl for the automatic variants.

The comprehensive suite of safety features offered in the Ford Mustang Mach-1 includes seven airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, front and rear parking sensors, reverse camera, AdvanceTrac with electronic stability control, blind spot information system with rear cross-traffic alert, pre-collision assist with autonomous emergency braking, pedestrian detection, forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, dynamic brake support, lane keep assist, lane keeping alert and driver alert.

The Ford Mustang Mach-1 is an apt swansong to the sixth-generation Mustang and is a perfect and most suitable option for all those who want the best of this particular version of the Mustang, which will soon fade away to make way for the new seventh-gen model.
