Changan CS95

The Changan CS95’s old school appeal is well retained in the interior cabin as well, as the dashboard has an upright stance and bits which will remind you of a cabin of a previous generation SUV. 

The three-spoke steering wheel, as well as a simply laid out instrument console, feel out of place for an SUV of this demeanour. Also, the centre console looks wide and bulky, however, it packs in all premium and new age elements like a touchscreen infotainment system with vertical AC vents beside it, dual-zone climate control and push-button start with keyless entry

Apart from the aforementioned features, the Changan CS95 also packs in many other kit like a panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery, electrically adjustable and ventilated front seats, powered tailgate, cruise control, ambient lighting, 10-speaker audio system and AC vents for all the three rows.

The Changan CS95 has enough space to seat seven adults in all the three rows, with the sense of space being on a higher note thanks to low window waistline as well as large side windows and sunroof.

The Changan CS95 has an air of subtlety in its exterior design, as the SUV looks a bit too plain for its segment. With its conventional styling, the Changan CS95 might not turn many heads on the road but has enough visual mass to give it an authoritative stance on the road.

The sleek-looking full LED headlamps look nice and premium, however, the same can’t be said about the dull-looking large front grille with ‘Changan’ logo placed proudly at its top. The C-shaped daytime running lamps are integrated in the large body cladding on the front bumper, which also gets a small front skid plate.

The side profile of the Changan CS95 too looks very plain, as it lacks any prominent character line. The angular C-pillar behind the backside window is something that stands out here. The alloy wheels and roof rail design too could have been made look a bit better here.

At the rear, the Changan CS95 looks simple with large trapezoidal tail lamps, however, like the front, the large body cladding and skid plate do add some rugged appeal to the SUV.

Being a large seven-seater SUV, the Changan CS95 has put the comfort of inner occupants at a higher order, something in which it delivers pretty effectively. The low-speed ride quality is good and the light steering makes it an easy to drive vehicle despite its large size. However, the boxy design does filtrate body roll a bit at higher speeds inside the cabin.

Powering the Changan CS95 is a large 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which is coupled to a 6-speed torque converter and channels the power produced to all the four wheels via a four-wheel-drive system. The engine produces a healthy 233 PS of maximum power output and 360 Nm of peak torque output.

The Changan CS95 is packed with safety features to the core, like adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, in-call intelligent onboard interconnection system, electronic stability control, nine airbags, active high beam, ABS with EBD, traction control and hill hold assist.

For a full-size SUV which can seat and ferry seven people with utmost comfort, the Changan CS95 makes a great sense. Sure, it doesn’t have a contemporary charm in its design and is not fun to drive vehicle. However, it scores high on practicality, with supple ride quality, spacious cabin and a long list of features, which do justify its premium positioning.
