I use the Skoda Octavia for both taxi runs and family chores and I must say it performs both these duties with utmost agility and competence. I can easily load up the trunk with shopping bags or fold down the rear seats to fit bulky items. You can definitely go for it if you’re looking for an ideal vehicle for both private and professional transportation.

If you are not really brand conscious and want something equally as good as the big germans, the Passat is a great option. You pretty much get all the Audi tech minus the brand value. This is why I got it and have been enjoying it for close to a year now. The 170 hp engine is great for city and highway use, the automatic gearbox could have been a bit better though. You get lots of space and an enjoyable drive every time.
