Volkswagen drops teaser of new Transporter MPV ahead of September reveal

ABU DHABI: Volkswagen has recently teased the all-new next-generation Transporter van that is scheduled to be unveiled at the IAA Transportation Show in Hanover, Germany in September. It showcases a thoroughly refreshed design for its flagship commercial vehicle.

  • The upcoming Transporter van will utilise Ford's chassis, batteries, and electric motors. The electric 'E-Transporter' boasts an impressive range of around 380 km, with rear-axle-mounted motors providing either 218 hp or 136 hp. The other drivetrain options may include 2.0-litre diesel engines, producing around 110 hp and 150 hp, and a 225 hp plug-in hybrid equipped with an 11.8 kWh battery.

    Volkswagen Transporter

    In terms of design, the MPV features a new front grille and headlamps that will remind you of the Multivan and ID.Buzz models. Redesigned C-shaped LED lights at the rear are inspired by the Transporter T5 (2003-2015). The vehicle’s design is enhanced by horizontal character lines on the tailgate.

    The all-new Transporter shares body panels and underpinnings with the Ford Transit Custom MPV. The charging flap for PHEV and electric variants has been placed beneath the right-hand headlight. 

    The new Volkswagen Transporter will be produced in Turkey at the Ford Otosan factory.

    Ford and Volkswagen have entered into multiple collaborative agreements for shared and co-developed products. Among these include the Amarok pickup that has been derived from the Ranger, the Ford Explorer EV SUV that is based on the Volkswagen ID.4 platform, and the upcoming Transporter MPV that is based on the Transit.
