Omoda O5 HEV launched in Sharjah: hybrid SUV with 1,000km range

The Chinese brand’s hybrid SUV officially arrives in the UAE, promising a substantial 1,000km range without needing to be plugged in.

OMODA & JAECOO officially launched the new OMODA O5 HEV in the UAE on 10 September 2026. The launch event took place at the Galadari Motors showroom in Sharjah, establishing a direct market entry for the hybrid SUV. Its main draw is a claimed WLTC driving range of up to 1,000km from its self-charging hybrid system.

The UAE launch confirms that the O5 HEV will be available through local partner Galadari Motors. Holding the event in Sharjah signals the brand’s presence across the emirates, where OMODA & JAECOO report more than 5,000 existing customers.

The parent company, Chery International, now has a presence in 77 markets globally, with cumulative sales exceeding one million vehicles. This isn't a quiet arrival. The brand is making its presence known.

Hybrid powertrain and range

At the centre of the O5 HEV is its 1.5T TGDI hybrid engine paired with a DHT transmission. The system uses a 1.8kWh battery and what Omoda calls its Super Hybrid Technology (SHS). It doesn't require external charging.

The powertrain delivers a combined output of 165kW, and the company states a thermal efficiency rating of 44.5%.

However, the most notable figure is the WLTC comprehensive driving range of up to 1,000km. This puts it among the longest-range hybrids in its class, a key point for UAE drivers covering long distances between cities.

Performance and driving modes

The hybrid system provides enough performance for daily driving. The Omoda O5 HEV accelerates from 0–100km/h in a claimed 7.9 seconds. Two driving modes, Eco and Sport, allow the driver to adjust the vehicle’s responsiveness. For urban commuting, the Eco mode is likely sufficient, while Sport mode will be more useful for highway merging.

The vehicle also comes equipped with TBOX functionality, which enables remote vehicle access through a mobile app. The safety specification includes six airbags and a suite of 19 ADAS features.

European sales precedent

The O5 HEV arrives in the UAE with a proven sales record in Europe. This isn't an entirely new platform making its global debut. The O5 SHS has achieved cumulative sales of 55,290 units across the UK and other EU markets. In Italy, a version called the OMODA 5 SHS-H sold more than 5,600 units within five months of its launch. These figures suggest a degree of market acceptance for the hybrid technology and overall package before its arrival in the GCC.
