Omoda expands to Europe and Omoda 5 SHS Super-hybrid confirmed for UAE

Omoda & Jaecoo has confirmed its new super-hybrid Omoda 5 SHS will arrive in the UAE this September, as the brand accelerates its European expansion.

Chinese automaker Omoda & Jaecoo is pushing aggressively into Europe, a move highlighted by the European debut of its new Omoda 4 at a major esports event in Barcelona. This coincides with confirmation that its first super-hybrid model, the Omoda 5 SHS, is set for a September 2026 launch in the UAE, bringing a claimed 1,000 km driving range to the local market.

European push and Barcelona showcase

The brand states that its presence in Europe has grown to encompass 22 markets and over 500 sales outlets within two years.

Omoda & Jaecoo chose the 2026 VALORANT Champions Tour EMEA Finals in Barcelona to stage the European debut of the Omoda 4. The partnership, a first for VALORANT Esports EMEA with an automotive brand, showcased a co-branded car featuring a "CYBER MECHA" design language. Its look is defined by an avant-garde front fascia and visual cues inspired by the video game.

This public-facing strategy is backed by strong sales figures. As of July 2026, cumulative sales in Europe have surpassed 440,000 units, accounting for over 40% of the brand's global sales. The existing Omoda 5 has sold 55,290 units across the UK and EU, while its hybrid version surpassed 5,600 units in Italy alone within five months of its launch there.

Omoda 5 SHS powertrain

According to the announcement, the Omoda 5 SHS is powered by a Super Hybrid System combining a petrol engine with a dedicated hybrid transmission.

The model slated for the UAE this September is the Omoda 5 SHS. Its powertrain pairs a 1.5-litre turbocharged TGDI hybrid engine with a 1.8 kWh battery and a DHT, or Dedicated Hybrid Transmission. The combined output is 224 hp and 295 Nm of torque. It’s the claimed driving range that stands out. The company says the car can travel over 1,000 km between refuelling stops.

The exterior gets a new sculpted diamond-pattern grille, split headlamps, and 18-inch alloy wheels. Inside, the cabin features dual 12.3-inch displays powered by a Snapdragon 8155 chip, an eight-speaker Sony audio system, and 64-colour ambient lighting. Heated and ventilated electric sport seats are also included, along with six airbags and 19 ADAS features.

AI cockpit and parking technology

The brand is introducing new intelligent vehicle technologies, including an AI-powered cockpit and assisted parking.

A key feature of the Omoda 4 shown in Barcelona was its AI-powered intelligent cockpit, designed to learn and anticipate user habits and preferences. This focus on driver-assistance tech is also coming to the UAE. Omoda plans to introduce its SIVP intelligent assisted-parking technology, which uses obstacle recognition to provide parking support.

This new tech builds on a growing local presence. The company is celebrating more than 5,000 customers across the seven emirates, supported by dealer partners Mahy Khoory Automotive in Abu Dhabi, AUTORUN in Dubai, and Galadari Motors in Sharjah and the Northern Emirates.

Global roadmap and future models

Future models, including the Omoda X, are planned for a global unveiling at a user summit in October 2026.

The brand's product cadence looks set to continue. Omoda & Jaecoo has scheduled an International User Summit in Wuhu, China, for October 2026, just a month after the Omoda 5 SHS launches in the UAE. Approximately 1,800 global guests are expected to attend.

It’s at this event that the company plans to reveal new models. One of these has been named as the Omoda X. This suggests the brand’s local line-up could expand beyond the Omoda 5 variants in the near future, continuing the momentum from its European and regional sales growth.
