Next-gen Apple CarPlay revealed at WWDC 2024

ABU DHABI: Apple has offered a sneak peek into its updated CarPlay system. At WWDC 2024, it shared select coding sessions, providing automakers with the option to seamlessly integrate vehicle functions into the software, promising a fully integrated in-car experience.

Apple has revealed that the updated version of the CarPlay will offer extensive customization options, allowing automotive brands to tailor the design of the system in a way that perfectly complements their vehicles. With different design elements and layout options, CarPlay will allow automakers to offer personalized in-car experiences for passengers and drivers.

CarPlay integration has now been extended to customizable gauges on the driver's display, with layout, colour, and font options. These gauges display important information like speed, temperature, and fuel levels tailored to different vehicle variants and powertrain types, ensuring a tailored driving experience.

The recognizable CarPlay home screen will now have temperature shortcuts and climate control buttons for added convenience. For charge status, EV drivers will receive pop-up notifications, alongside integration with park assist features and rear-facing cameras.

Aston Martin and Porsche will be the first car brands to introduce the updated CarPlay in their upcoming models. CarPlay is currently compatible with more than 800 global car models.

The release date of Apple's next-gen CarPlay has not been fixed yet. However, it will allow content integration from both the vehicle systems and the iPhone, creating a seamless display. This complex layout seamlessly integrates all the important information across multiple driver displays.
