Kia teases new compact SUV with EV9-inspired design

ABU DHABI: Kia has unveiled a teaser for its highly anticipated compact SUV, showcasing a tallboy design inspired by the recent global releases, the Carnival and EV9. This upcoming sub-4m SUV will be positioned above the popular Sonet in Kia's lineup, targeting a more premium segment. It focuses on rear-seat space and comfort, promising a more luxurious and spacious experience for passengers.

The upcoming Kia SUV could be called the "Syros," as this name has been trademarked. Kia is planning to come up with this new model in early 2025 to expand its presence in the compact SUV market.

For Kia’s upcoming compact SUV, the teaser images showcase an eye-catching silhouette featuring a sharply rising window line and clamshell bonnet with a kink at the rear quarter. The unique design will remind you of the Skoda Yeti with a B-pillar body-colored break. Notable details include EV9-inspired LED DRLs, flush door handles, L-shaped high-positioned LED tail lamps, and functional roof rails. The SUV also boasts body cladding for an aggressive SUV look.

While interior images have not been unveiled, it is anticipated that the tallboy design focuses on maximizing cabin space and rear-seat comfort, addressing the limitations of Sonet. Kia has described the interior as "lounge-like" with an innovative seating layout and futuristic features. Higher-spec versions will likely come with powered front seats, ADAS, a panoramic sunroof, and an all-digital interface.

While details are scarce on the powertrain, the SUV is anticipated to offer both electric and ICE options, with the ICE version launching first. Both versions will feature front-wheel drive and share the same platform.

The upcoming Kia Syros is designed for a more premium market segment, offering expanded space and advanced features to distinguish itself from the competition.
