Geely EX5 Raises the Safety Bar with 5-Star Ratings and Smart ADAS Technology

Dubai: The Geely EX5 is now available in the UAE. It presents a package centred on certified safety credentials and advanced platform engineering. The electric SUV is built on the brand's Global Intelligent Electric Architecture (GEA), combining a 475 km WLTP range with a 0-100 km/h sprint time of 6.9 seconds.

A New Generation of Safety

The EX5 has achieved 5-star safety ratings in both Euro NCAP and ANCAP crash tests, according to official results. These top-tier ratings from two independent testing bodies form a core part of the EX5's proposition. The vehicle's structure is built on the Global Intelligent Electric Architecture, a platform designed specifically for electric vehicles. Its inherent rigidity contributes to its crash performance. 

Safety equipment includes a total of seven airbags distributed throughout the cabin. Geely also highlights the design of its advanced short-blade battery, which is built to be puncture-resistant with a focus on durability and safety under impact. The battery is engineered for an ultra-long operational life, underpinning the vehicle's long-term credentials.

Advanced Driver Assistance Systems

Level-2 ADAS technology is integrated into the vehicle's advanced driver assistance systems, Geely confirms.

The Geely EX5 comes equipped with a suite of active safety features. This collection of technologies, known as Level-2 ADAS (Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems), uses sensors and cameras to monitor the road. The system includes adaptive cruise control, which maintains a set distance from the vehicle ahead.

It also features Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) to help prevent or mitigate collisions. Lane-keeping assist and blind-spot warnings are also part of the package. These features work in concert to reduce driver workload and provide an extra layer of protection during daily driving in the UAE.

Platform and Driving Stability

The GEA electronic system and 12-in-1 intelligent drive system manage vehicle stability and performance, the press release states. Performance is delivered by a single electric motor producing 160kW (218 hp) of power and 320Nm of torque. This allows the EX5 to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in a claimed 6.9 seconds. 

The powertrain is an 11-in-1 intelligent electric drive unit with advanced cooling. This entire system is designed for efficiency and responsiveness. The underlying GEA platform provides a stable base for the vehicle's dynamics. Fast charging is another key capability. The battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in 28 minutes. A 10-minute charge can add up to 135 km of range, according to Geely's figures.

A Focus on Comfort and Technology

The EX5 offers a premium interior experience with a focus on comfort and technology, the company says. Inside, the cabin is designed to be a quiet and comfortable space. Geely quotes a cabin noise level of just 68.3dB when travelling at 120km/h. The front seats feature an 8-point integrated massage system and are constructed with a 5+1 layer cushion technology, with both heating and ventilation included. 

The Flyme Auto system manages infotainment, and information is presented to the driver via a 13.8-inch head-up display (HUD) with a brightness of 12,000 nits. The interior design aims for high space utilisation, with a stated efficiency of 67.2%. Other convenience features include a 15W wireless charger, ambient lighting, and a Geely mobile app for remote functions like locking and vehicle status checks.
