Volvo ES90 electric sedan to become the successor of S90

ABU DHABI: Volvo is taking significant steps to become a fully electric manufacturer by 2030. It is consistently coming up with next-generation electric vehicles like the pint-sized EX30 and the flagship EX90 crossover. The recent addition to its electric lineup is the ES90. 

According to Teknikens Värld, the Swedish magazine, the ES90 will enter full production in 2024. It will most likely replace the S90 and compete with the Mercedes EQE and BMW i5.

Leaked documents from China reportedly reveal the size of the S90. Its dimensions place it between the short-wheelbase discontinued version of the S90 and the long-wheelbase model that is currently being sold in the U.S. It has a longer wheelbase and shorter overhangs. It will likely be available in all-wheel and rear-drive versions.

The Volvo S90 is expected to get a 111 kWh battery pack offering a 600 km range and a 640-horsepower electric motor setup. It will share a platform with models like Zeekr 007 and Geely Galaxy E8.

The pre-production version of the Volvo ES90, known as V551, has started production in China at the Geely factory. A leaked photo picked up by Autocar reveals staff members standing next to a sign that reads “Top Secret” and another one that reads “Volvo Cars V551 First VP Car Celebration”.

Details about the ES90 have not been revealed fully. The full scoop about this model will most likely be revealed during its official debut around mid-year. 

The automaker is yet to reveal information about the debut of the ES90 in the Middle East.
