Mazda unveils the Iconic SP Concept 2023 Japan Mobility Show

ABU DHABI: Mazda Motor Corporation introduced a new concept car, the Iconic SP, at the Japan Mobility Show 2023. It looks like the company's last year's Vision Study design but is slightly bigger than the current generation MX-5 Miata, hinting at the continuation of the RX-7's legacy.

The Mazda Iconic SP has a wheelbase of 2,590 mm, stands at 1,150 mm in height, 1,850 mm in width, and 4,180 mm in length, and achieves a balanced weight distribution. It features curvy coupé lines, a short wheelbase, and a compact cabin. The interior is minimalistic, with a few physical switches and a small screen.

The exterior elements include swooping doors, wide hips, sloping rear windows, and slim pop-up headlights.  The latter is coated in a "VIOLA RED" shade that aligns with the commitment of the brand to celebrating the colour red. 

The concept utilises a two-rotor rotary electric system, combining a flexible rotary engine with electric power that runs on modern fuels like hydrogen. The maximum output has been rated to be around 370 PS. Renewable energy is used to charge the batteries, offering a carbon-neutral driving experience. 

Mazda's CEO, Masahiro Moro, said the company is committed to creating vehicles that enrich lives and bring joy. They aim to shape the future by enhancing their customer's mobility experience and ensuring everyone can declare their love for cars.
