Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has developed an extensive network of EV Green Charger stations to support the city’s shift toward sustainable transport.

These stations make it easier for both registered customers and guest users to keep their vehicles charged while on the go. Understanding the process, service requirements, and charging fees is important for anyone looking to benefit from this service.

Overview of the Service 

DEWA’s electric car charging service works for both registered EV account holders and guest users. Registered customers can access chargers through the DEWA Smart App, QR code scanning, or the official EV Green Charger Card.

Guest users can also use the service without registration by scanning a QR code, providing basic details, and paying via card or Apple Pay.

Customers must always follow instructions provided on the DEWA website or mobile app. As noted, “Forcibly removing the cable can damage both the vehicle and the charger.” In emergencies, drivers should call 991.

Requirements for the Service 

For registered customers, the requirement is to log in with a DEWA Online User ID or UAE Pass, or create a new EV account via DEWA’s portal. Guest users have no such requirement and can simply scan the QR code at any charging station to start.

Step-by-Step Charging Process

The EV charging process is straightforward for registered and guest users. For registered customers:

• Scan QR Code via DEWA Smart App or phone camera. 
• Log in with DEWA ID or UAE Pass.
• Select EV account and begin charging.
• Alternatively, tap the EV Green Charger card on the reader.

For guest users:

• Scan QR code and select ‘Continue as Guest’.
• Enter name, email, mobile number, and EV plate number.
• Verify email via OTP.
• Choose the package and pay via card or Apple Pay.
• Charging starts immediately, with fees adjusted to actual consumption.

Charging Fees

For registered customers, the security deposit is AED 500 (individuals and businesses), while government entities are exempt. A delivery charge of AED 20 applies. Consumption rates are AED 0.70/kWh + VAT for AC charging and AED 1.20/kWh + VAT for DC charging.

Guest users pay based on actual consumption, though they must select an estimated package upfront. The final fee is recalculated after the charging session ends.

Activating a DEWA EV Account

Customers can activate an EV account through several methods: RTA integration, DubaiNow App, DEWA’s digital channels, or via the Customer Care Centre IVR. Activation requires detailed submission, security deposit (if applicable), and card delivery fees. Accounts are usually active within an hour of registration, while the EV Green Charger Card is delivered within three working days.

Billing and Access

Registered users can track their charging sessions via the DEWA or DubaiNow App, with fees automatically added to their DEWA Green Bill.

Guest users receive invoices by email after completing their session. Both groups benefit from quick, efficient, and flexible access to charging stations across the city.
