Since Daihatsu Gran Max is more focused on commercial purpose, the cabin area is also kept simple and neat. You will not find any luxuries or high-end features in this van but basic features required for a comfortable and safe drive are employed within. Glass trim comes with 5 seats with the facility of folding all the 3 rear seats flat making more space for the cargo. The Panel trim is rather meant for commercial purpose and has 2 seats with all the cargo space at rear. The cargo area in Glass variant with all the 5 seats up measures 1255 mm x 1495 mm x 1340 (L x W x H). This cargo length is enhanced to 2075 mm after folding all the rear seats. The Panel variant has the same cargo area dimensions as Glass trim with 2 seats up. A basic audio system with AM/FM, radio cassette system and 2 speakers are employed for the entertainment of the on boarders.

Exteriors

Daihatsu Gran Max is designed to carry loads and this is the reason it has a ladder chassis. This van has a simple and dull appearance with usual features. The rear 2 doors of the van are sliding type for easy access and loading and unloading of the cargo. Appearance wise, both the trims - Glass and Panel, can be distinguished in one look with their windows. Where the Glass trim has glass windows for the comfort of the rear seat occupants, the Panel trim doesn't need that facility and has opaque windows. Gran Trax has exterior dimensions measuring 4045 mm x 1665 mm x 1900 mm (L x W x H). The wheelbase provided measures 2650 mm which makes this van quite spacious. This Daihatsu vehicle comes packed with 13-inch steel wheels with tires of dimensions 165 R13 C.

Engine, mileage & variants

Daihatsu Gran Max is available in 2 body equally elegant styles – Glass and Panel with manual and automatic transmissions. The glass trim comes with a seating capacity of 5 with large cargo space and the panel trim is exclusively designed for commercial purpose with a capacity of 2 seating accompanied with a massive cargo. A 1.5-litre engine is placed beneath the bonnet of these vans which is capable of churning a peak power of 71 kW at 6000 rpm along with a peak torque measuring 134 Nm at 4400 rpm. When it comes to fuel economy, this van doesn't disappoint. Gran Max delivers a mileage of 13.3 kmpl on an average which is appreciable.

Safety, Braking and Miscellaneous

Daihatsu has employed the trusted ventilated disc brakes at its front wheels and drum brakes at the rear pair of wheels. Lever type parking brakes are also employed in this van for enhanced safety. The firm handling is ensured with McPherson struts along with coil springs suspension at front and 5-link coil springs suspension at rear wheels. The front seats of both the trims have seat belts so that the occupants may be stable and doesn't feel any shock after sudden brakes. For more safety, the exterior body is made up of high tensile material.

Verdict

Daihatsu Gran Max is more over focused on commercial purpose and its designing proves the same. This vehicle has decent looks and can be used for personal and commercial, both, the fronts. Lack for good safety features and audio system doesn't make it an appealing passenger vehicle.
