Ford Ranger

Step into the cabin of the Ford Ranger, and it's hard to tell that it’s a half-a-decade-old plate to be in. The cabin has a nice, tough and built-to-last feel to it, which is again well-complemented by a decent amount of features on board.

Matching the butch appeal of the Ford Ranger is its thick-looking three-spoke multi-functional steering wheel, behind which the pickup gets a part-digital instrument console with attractive display modes. The centre console of the cabin of the Ranger looks broad with a large 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system taking centre stage, with trapezoidal AC vents with silver garnish around it flanking the system.

Even the lower part of the centre console looks broad with a cluster of buttons for the dual-zone automatic climate control and various drive functions. Apart from the features mentioned above, the Ford Ranger’s five-seater cabin also gets a powered driver’s seat, leather upholstery, engine start-stop button, rear AC vents and a 6-speaker audio system.

This particular version of the Ford Ranger is the previous-generation version, which has already been replaced by the all-new model around the world in 2022. However, this particular version still looks desirable with its macho design and towering stance.

At the front, the Ford Ranger has an aggressive design with a widespread grille having chrome-finished horizontal lines within it and chrome surrounds on all four sides. Complementing the in-your-face look of the grille is the set of block-themed headlamps, which come integrated with projector bulbs and L-shaped daytime running LEDs. The front bumper of the Ranger looks massive and gets C-shaped surrounds for the rounded fog lamps.

The side profile of the Ford Ranger might not have a complicated design language to talk much about, but it looks smart with a high ground clearance and muscular-looking door panels. The rounded and flared wheel arches above the large 18-inch machined wheels of the Ranger give it a more butch stance, while the chrome finished door handles and trapezoidal fender element sporting the name of the vehicle are a few other attention-grabbing elements. At the rear, the Ford Ranger carries a simplistic design approach with vertically-laid tail lamps with LED inserts on the corners of the deck lid, which has wide Ranger lettering across its width.

The range-topping versions of the Ford Ranger come equipped with an electronic shift-on-fly 4x4 system and electronic rear locking differential, both of which give the Ranger tremendous capabilities off the road. Ford claims a water wading capacity of 800mm for the Ranger, which is the best in its class. However, the suspension setup of Ranger can feel bouncy at times.

There are four powertrain options in the entire lineup of Ford Ranger to choose from, among which two are petrol-powered and two are diesel-powered. The two petrol engines on offer are a 2.5-litre four-cylinder naturally-aspirated engine (163 PS and 226 Nm) and a 2.3-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine (270 PS and 420 Nm). There are two diesel engine options on offer too – a 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel (158 PS and 385 Nm) and a 3.2-litre five-cylinder diesel (197 PS and 470 Nm).
