Nissan Terra

Just like the exterior design, Nissan has executed a good mix of old school and modern themes for the interior cabin as well. However, in the process, the cabin of the Nissan Terra feels a bit uninteresting and does not feel as modern and rich as those in its competition.

The multifunctional steering wheel with a V-shaped centre boss comes with silver inserts that look nice, and so does the instrument console with a large MID at the centre, but the latter has dated-looking analog dials that make it look less contemporary.

The U-shaped centre console looks wide and a bit old school in design, consisting of partitioned AC vents and a housing below consisting of a rather small touchscreen infotainment system and controls for automatic climate control below it, and gets nice silver finish around it.

The all-black dashboard is further complemented by brown leather upholstery giving a good contrast to the interior cabin. The Terra comes with a decent feature list comprising of power-adjustable driver’s seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, Android Auto and Apple Carplay, push-button start with keyless entry and many more. In terms of space, the Nissan Terra has plenty of it for all the three rows, with even the third row having adequate headroom and legroom. 

The Nissan Terra takes a leaf from the prestigious old school SUVs like the Patrol and has been designed with the same attributes, making it look like a true blue traditional SUV, unlike the modern pseudo crossovers.

The Nissan Terra looks mighty from the front itself, with the SUV getting a wide front fascia consisting of a trapezoidal front grille with angular U-shaped chrome garnish. The wraparound headlamps with a noticeable kink below come with projector bulbs and inverted L-shaped daytime running LEDs. The additional chrome in the lower bumper and above the fog lamps provide additional premium appeal to it.

With flared wheel arches, prominent bulge above the rear wheel, high shoulder line, high ground clearance, and large window panels, the Nissan Terra looks gigantic when viewed from the rear. While all these elements do give the Nissan Terra a huge road presence, things like machined alloy wheels and chrome door handles add some richness to the design.

The Nissan Terra has got a simple design at the rear, consisting of wraparound tail lamps that are large in size and come with LED inserts. The chrome garnish above the trapezoidal license plate housing does join the tail lamps on either sides, thus giving a sense of continuity.

The Nissan Terra is built on an old school ladder on frame chassis, which feels sturdy on off-road terrains as well, thanks to the sturdy suspension consisting of an independent double-wishbone with coil spring and stabilizer bar at front and multi-link with a stabilizer bar at the rear. The ride quality is a bit on a firmer side, though.

The Nissan Terra is available in UAE with only one diesel engine option, which precisely is a 2.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engine. Available with both the options of a 6-speed manual and 7-speed automatic gearbox options, the engine here produces a maximum power output of 190 PS, while the peak torque output is rated at 450 Nm.

The Nissan Terra’s safety list does not match the premium appeal of the SUV very much, with very limited inclusions like the front, side, and curtain airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, vehicle dynamic control, tire pressure monitoring system, front and rear parking sensors, and rear camera. It could have had a few more modern electronic safety aids.

With its intimidating stance and performance reminiscent of the old school ladder on frame SUVs, the Nissan Terra is purely for those who value traditional SUVs over crossovers. It might have cutting edge interiors and features to boast of, but on mechanical fronts, it is very well sorted.
