Porsche shows its rally concept, Cayman GT4 Clubsport

ABU DHABI: Porsche broke hearts when it announced its exit from the LMP1 class of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). Having proved their dominance in racing class, the company thought it was time to move to something more interesting and new. In lieu of this, the Stuttgart based automaker announced that they will be a part of the 2019 season of Formula E through a works team.

Porsche has been dedicated to the electrification of automobiles for some time now. Their motorsport department however, has got something really special for rally enthusiasts. The company recently posted pictures of their new “Cayman GT4 Clubsport Rally” on its official Twitter page. The GT4 isn’t something new though, it is just a stripped out, racing-only version of the Cayman GT4. The pictures posted on Twitter show that it is equipped with truly rally-inspired equipment. This concept car comes with more fog lights at the front, extra aerodynamic rear and a front bumper with OMP pull hook. There is a cosmic roof at the top as well. The new Rally-inspired Cayman GT4 comes with Michelin Pilot Sport Dirt tires and skid plates for increased chassis protection.

The company has not yet made any note about the powertrain of the vehicle. But most probably it is going to be a naturally-aspirated flat-six which delivers 385PS. This is because it is based on Clubsport Cayman GT4. Rather than a traditional six speed manual, power is transferred to a six-speed Dual-clutch transmission. The all new Cayman GT4 Clubsport Rally is loaded with a race-specified mechanical locking Rear differential and a stripped-out interior for light curb weight and advanced cornering.

Porsche also says that the manufacturing of this Rally-inspired Clubsport Cayman GT4 is only to get feedback and views from the rally. If their idea of a rally-spec vehicle gets more interest and more attention, then they could go into production later this year.
The rally-spec Clubsport Cayman GT4 is now all ready to make its first appearance at this year’s round of Rally Germany in World Rally Championship (WRC).
