First 2020 Toyota Supra auctioned for $2.1 million
ABU DHABI: The first 2020 Toyota Supra has been auctioned for a staggering amount of $2.1 million. This happened when the company took their latest iteration to the Barret-Jackson car auction. The American Heart Association (AHA) and Bob Woodruff Foundation (BWF) will be presented with the auction amount as a charity.
The auctioned model will be one-of-a-kind and the first to be available in the US. It will be a Phantom Matte Gray colored Supra with mirror caps finished in red. Additionally, it will feature matte black wheels, red leather interior trimmings, and a VIN number 20201.
Toyota told that the model will come with number 1 imprinted on the carbon-fibre badge on the front passenger dash along with Akio Toyoda’s signature. The company will sell a total of 1,500 units of the new Supra. Moreover, an engine cover with Akio Toyoda’s signature will be given to the bidder that can be either installed on the car or framed for the gallery.
Not just this, the winning bidder received a VIP racing experience. This includes two passes to the Toyota Owners 400 at Richmond Raceway, a professional racing suit, and a chance to drive the 2020 Toyota Supra with Michael Waltrip, who is an American former professional stock car racing driver, commentator and author of ‘In the Blink of an Eye: Dale, Daytona, and the Day that Changed Everything’.
The CEO and chairman of Barrett-Jackson, Craig Jackson said, “It was an honour to have Bob Carter and the rest of the Toyota team join us on the block for the historic sale of the first production 2020 Toyota Supra. The incredible excitement of the Supra rolling across the block was felt by everyone in the arena. This was a moment that was 20 years in the making. More importantly, we're thrilled to have joined with Toyota in their efforts to raise funds in the fight against heart disease and stroke, as well as support our nation's military veterans.”
The new 2020 Toyota Supra was introduced earlier this month at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit. The Supra comes in two variants, 3.0-litre and 3.0-litre Premium, with the same straight-six turbo 3.0-litre engine that can produce max power of 340 PS and a peak torque of 495 Nm, while being coupled with an 8-speed automatic transmission system with paddle shifters. This version of Supra is claimed to sprint to 97 kmph in just 4.1 seconds.
While the standard offerings include an active rear differential, launch control and adaptive suspension, the premium version gets benefitted from leather-trimmed and heated seats and a digital dash with an 8.8-inch touchscreen. The base Supra, on the other hand, comes with a 6.5-inch display with iPod and Bluetooth connectivity support and Alcantara seats. Offered as an option on the base trim are features like JBL audio unit and in-built navigation.
