Brabham to produce road-legal BT62

ABU DHABI: It was tremendous to see Brabham Automotive make a comeback to the fraternity last year, with its track-only supercar BT62. It was produced after two decades, 26 years to be precise, from the time company marked its absence in the auto world.

The new year has brought another surprise and rejoicing moment for many of the auto enthusiasts out there - the Brabham BT62 will be offered in a road-legal version too.

So, the track-only model weighing just 972 kg having a large splitter, diffusers, a big rear wing and all kinds of aggressive-looking components, can now be driven on the road. Obviously, there will be some modifications required to make the supercar legal for roads to embrace. And this includes the increase in weight and ride height. Moreover, the transformation from the track-only version to road-ready will require an increased steering lock range, the presence of immobilizer, door locks and air conditioning system.

According to the automaker, there will be ‘minimal compromise to the race-bred circuit dynamics’ and the Brabham BT62 that underpins a powerful naturally-aspirated V8 5.4-litre engine will continue to put out a max power of 700 PS.

To ensure that the car complies with all the legal standards and norms, the road-legal Brabham BT62 will undergo certain tests, including IVA (Individual Vehicle Approval) and DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency).

As far as pricing is concerned, the interested peeps need to shell out an additional $200,000 (AED 7,34,606) to buy and get this amazing Brabham creation converted into a street-legal model. The track-only BT62 retails at $1.3-million (around AED 47,74,939).

 Brabham BT62 side

Presently, the conversion is being offered in the European, US and Australian markets. However, the customers outside these regions need not be disappointed as the company would consult them regarding road legality in their respective regions.

Further, the company promises to deliver the first street-legal Brabham BT62 by the end of this ongoing year.
