2018 Toyota Avanza: What is new?

The Toyota Avanza has been much like a revelation for the company ever since it was first launched in the Middle East in 2014. In fact, the launch here was triggered by the immense popularity that it had already gathered in places like the Philippines and Indonesia.

Plus, much like any other country, it is sold in the Middle Eastern market too, it is slotted below the luxurious Toyota Innova. However, following the initial launch, the MPV has changed greatly, especially in the way how it looks.

Designing

The 2018 Toyota Avanza can be described as the car that has the looks and an authoritative presence, both going its way. The large front grille, with black slats and the chrome over-lining, make the sight very pleasant. The fresh design and amazing contours are included all across the car, including the flared wheel arches and the striking lower bumper.

Some of the features of the exterior include the halogen headlamps that are very good on the illumination, body coloured door handles and rear view mirrors and the front fog lamps. The top end model of the car rides on 15-inch wheels which are quite grippy and stay planted firmly on the road.

Features inside

The 7-seater Toyota Avanza is very comfortable, all along the three rows. The third row is surprisingly comfortable and has a lot of legroom even for tall occupants. There are manual AC controls within the cabin, along with the addition of features like central locking and power windows.

The infotainment system has an audio setup that is routed to six speakers. It can be connected via mediums like AUX-in, USB, Bluetooth and CD. The audio controls are mounted on the steering wheel as well. That said, you surely cannot miss the well-cushioned seats that are covered under fabric upholstery.

Engine mechanism

The 2018 Toyota Avanza specs boast on a refined engine under the hood. This new engine is much more fuel efficient and quieter than you would normally expect. The powertrain also has the VVT (Variable Valve Timing), which is claimed to optimise the intake operation based on the conditions driven on.

As for the numbers, the 1.5-litre inline four-cylinder engine is capable of making 103 PS of power at 6,000 RPM along with a peak torque of 136 Nm, which comes at 4,200 RPM. The power is sent down to the wheels via a 4-speed automatic transmission gearbox.

Safety

The 2018 Toyota Avanza gets the dual front airbags as standard across all the trim levels. Apart from this, the other features that don the braking and safety department are ABS, along with electronic brakeforce distribution, VSC (Vehicle Stability Control), Anti-theft system along with vehicle immobiliser, tyre inflation pressure warning system, etc.

There are certain other features that assist the driver to make driving more convenient. Stuffed parking lots are now nothing to worry about as the rear parking sensors do the job of alarming the driver when the car moves very close to some other vehicle. Moreover, there are rear fog lamps offered now.

Handling

Keeping the smooth transmission aside, there are certain other things that make the handling of the Avanza top-class. First thing first, the MacPherson Strut front suspension and the Link-5 at the back are good enough to absorb a lot of bumpiness of the uneven roads.

With a kerb weight of 1,100 kilograms, the car feels breezy on the highway, although the stability is on the higher side. The low trims have the 14-inch 185-section section wheels.
